Anyone else having issues getting off the couch. I had the recliner out and the phone rang. I couldn't get up. DH had to try and help me. I can't close the recliner so I have to get up around the foot rest and get out of the hole that is made when the recliner goes out. It is exhausting and a little discouraging. It made my stomach hurt also after rushing to the phone. Anyway, that is my gripe for the day.

I have the same problem. You should see me try to get out of bed in the middle of the night. :p

He he he.... Yes exactly what happened to me the other day when I decided to relieve some back pain with a nice bath. I could not get back out, had to call for DH to help me!

It would be better for you to avoid such situations again.Keep the required things closer to you.Such incidents may prove very dangerous for you and your twins.

If getting up is this tough now I can't even imagine how it will be when I am as far along as you guys. I haven't even attempted a bath. Getting up off the floor is fun too, I was wrapping presents the other day, and it is easiest to do this on the floor for me, but getting up was a little more involved than usual. Fun. I usually have all of the required items that I need near me, but the phone was on the charger and since it was almost 10 at night I knew it wasn't someone that I could just let the machine get, so I had to try and get it. I made it just as the machine picked up. I will definitely make sure next time I have everything I need. I don't always recline in the couch but my back was killing me, and it was the only way it would stop. I did go to the chiropractor today so hopefully that will resolve that. Anyway, this turned out to be a longer post than I intended. Thanks guys.

LOL you girls crack me up! I'm due in like 3-4 weeks, but if I go into labor next week - they won't stop it. I'm only NOW feeling like a beached whale! I used to have no problems getting up from the tub or recliner or even the couch, and moving around and resituating myself (I sleep on the couch since week 18). But the past two weeks, I feel like I need a huge girdle around my belly because the babies are feeling so heavy in there and my back doesn't like how it feels when I'm trying to switch sides. My sister who has had 2 13lb babies said that eventually she had to move her stomach with her. I feel like I'm almost there, but how will I switch sides using my arms if my hands are busy?? lol

Oh the couch, this is what I do...always roll to your side and put your feet over before trying to get up. Then using your arms, pick up the top half of your body and try not to use your stomach muscles, until you are sitting upright. From there, scootch to the edge of the couch and try to place your feet directly under yourself, then using your knees, get up. If you need to, keep a stable chair near by for you to also grab onto and use. just think of yourself as an old lady.. lol

In the tub this is what I do: holding onto the side of the tub, I sit up then place my hands on either side of the tub, I pick myself up a bit and place my feet directly under me. Then push off with my hands, and place my hands on my thighs or one on my thigh and one on the bar in the tub - using my knees - I stand up. Of course, it helps if your tub has a bar to grab and hold onto. Or, place your knees under yourself and turn your body so you can sit on the edge of the tub, then get up from there. I had a hard time last week though when I took a bath. Definitely too big to get up without my knees feeling like they are grinding. But i've lasted this long! I have to admit, just stepping over the tub last time, I almost lost my balance. DH was there, but so was a counter that I grabbed and held onto.

As for the recliner... I don't get in it and put my feet up unless I have a friend who can put my feet down for me. Leaning over to the side to get the lever - I just can't do because one of the babies is in the way.

Just don't use your stomach muscles as you don't want to cause diastasis recti (where your muscles seperate and the uterus bulges between it. This happens to some women naturally, but putting undue pressure and strain on your stomach muscles can cause it too .... think of it as a hernia. And it's important to make sure that you aren't putting needless pressure on your cervix.

I have 3-4 more weeks to go.... oh, does it help to say that two years ago I lost a lot of weight, and as pregnant as I am with these two - I'm not even close to the highest weight I was... so maybe that's why it's not so hard for me.. well, hasn't been until recently.

I sure would love a chance to sit back and relax on the recliner. . . All that free and quiet time on bedrest . . . LOL

Thank you for the advice. I will try them. Lucky you not having a problem until later, it just hit me this much the last week. With the swelling I have in my feet and ankles this week I have needed to use the recliner to put my feet up. Do you have any other ideas on elevating your feet? What a process we go through to have these babies.

I remember when I was pregnant I would get soooooo mad when I would lose the remote in the couch. It was so much work to try and find it, my whole belly would hurt by the time I dug it out of the couch cushions and then it would happen again 10 minutes later. Not to mention if I accidentally flung it across the room when taking a blanket off. :rotflmbo: It is truly amazing how little energy I had.

They definitely don't make these things pregnancy friendly. Toes have not disappeared yet, but I miss my inny belly button.
