Ok so last night was good news and bad news. The good news is I put them down at 8:00pm and they didn't "officially" wake up until 5:45am. This is the first time they have not needed any bottles at night!!! The problem is one of my boys ("the cryer") LOL cried from 8:00pm until 10:00pm. We tried everything under the sun, eventually ending with CIO (but never went longer than 4-5min... I couldn't handle it). I went in at 10 and he had spit up all over him. I wiped it off and he passed out until this morning. Now I am estatic that I may have turned the STTN corner. I am just concerned about the bedtime situation. I fed them at 7:10 and when they were drowsy, I put them down just before 8:00. THE QUESTION IS: Do you think I am putting him down too early, or do I just need to let him CIO for a few nights. SECOND QUESTION: When they woke up this am at 5:45, after the bottles, was it ok to keep them up? The past few days I have put them back in their cribs after 5/6am feed and I am thinking that might affect problems with going to sleep at night... Any thoughts or recomendations??? Thanks

Also... let me add that I am not on an "official" schedule and maybe that is the problem. I usually put them down after their last bottle of the night which is anywhere between 6 and 8.

It sounds to me like they are doing great. What is their adjusted age. It seems to me like they may be on the young side for CIO. I don't think the bedtime is too early. It's really up to you, but a 6 am wake up at that age is great. My boys were still eating every 2 hours around the clock at that age.

I think 8 pm is probably too late to be putting them to bed. I think they could go down closer to 6 pm, but that's just me. I'd definitely feed them and let them stay awake at 5:45, for the first year my girls did 5:30 pm - 5:30 am.

I think it sounds like they are doing really well. Whether you keep them up in the morning or put them back in bed is totally up to you. As for the crier last night, maybe he just had a bit of gas & finally cleared it when he spit up. I always hated those nights when nothing seemed to soothe them!

I would agree that they are probably too young for CIO.
    1. I don't think you are putting him down too early. At that age ours were going to bed at 7:30-8:00.
    2. The answer to this one is a little tricky, at the age yours are, I would definitely feed them when they wake up at 5:45 and depending how they are acting-if they seem playful, I would let them be and put them down for their first nap around 7-7:30 am but if they are acting tired, I would try to put them back to sleep. I guess that one depends how they wake up.

Congrats on such a good night's sleep for both of them! I hope they keep it up!

Their adjusted age is 6 1/2 weeks. I think they are a little too young for CIO as well. We use more of the graduated cry method. We let him cry any where from 30 seconds to 4 minutes (depending on whether it's more a wine or a scream) and then we go in and try to soothe him. We have tried everything. At first we think he might be hungry, and sometimes he will eat, but I think it is more he wants to be held. Because as soon as you touch him or pick him up he stops crying. Sometimes he just seems so alert, and my husband and I debate as to whether we should just let him get up for a little while????? I don't know the answer...

On the gas thing, it could be, but it just seems like he wants to be held. Because as soon as you pick him up he is fine. It sounds like everyone has a different opinion on the bedtime. When he is so alert like that. Is it better to keep him in bed and try to soothe him, or just let him get up for a little while and work off his energy?

 I know it's rough. We have all been there. Your babies really are doing great. I would just hold him if he needs it. 6 1/2 weeks is too young to develop bad habits. Way to go, they really are doing great. I wish mine had slept that long1!!
