my boys have slept anywhere between 3-6 hours at night.
are there any 'tips' to getting them to sleep through the whole night? the pedi asked today if the boys have been STTN yet and said that they can sleep up to 8 hours. when does this generally occur? they are already on a pretty good schedule during the day (eat every 3 hours) but their naps aren't scheduled.

Babies are all different & sleep through at various times. I think we started getting the occasional night around 3 months, but it was awhile before it was consistent.

i would love to know the answer to this too! they are getting pretty close but they are not sleeping through the night yet. last night they went down around 9 and slept until 5:45, but that is a rare occurrence.

we've just started cereal so i'm hoping that buys us an extra hour or two :)

I have not found there to be any tips to help them STTN, other then they will do it in their own time. Ours did around 10 weeks old and the only things we did was make sure we did a consistent bedtime routine and the same bedtime every night. Hang in there

At 2 months, I think that sounds like heaven. I would have killed for that at 8 weeks.

Have you tried some of the tricks from other posts? Happiest Baby on the Block has some great suggestions...swaddling and white noise were key for us. Even now (we have a small house, so the babies are still in our room), when a baby starts stirring, I just turn up the volume on the white noise and he/she settles right back down. Not guaranteeing they will work, but they might buy you a few extra hours.

To get our boys to STTN we used their pacifiers. We would hold their crying off with the paci and hold them. Every night we would do it for longer and longer until they were STTN. It worked for us, but as the PP's say every baby is different!

    Good luck!

matthew and Alexis went from 10pm to 3:30am last night and then Mattherw got up at 7:30 and Alexis at 8:30. THey are almsot 2 months. I am gonna try to up them from 4 to 4 1/2 ounces tonite to see if that gets them to sleep longer.

Oh gosh at 2 months mine were still up every 3 hours to eat! Mine do sttn now but they didn't start until around 4.5-5 months and didn't do it consistently until about 5.5 months. I read a few sleep books but nothing seemed to help t hat much. I think a lot of babies just find their own time to start.

    Hey
Our babies are pretty much the same age so i'll let you know where we're at if that helps!!
A couple of weeks ago we decided to move them into the nursery as when they were in with us we woke up to every single little noise that they made and it was really tempting to get up and check on them when they were doing that. They're now in the nursery and they've gradually slept longer and longer each night. They're averaging 7.5 hours a night (9pm ish to 4.30am) but Ella has slept through the last two nights - we put her to bed last night at about 9pm and actually had to wake her up at 10am this morning for a feed!!! Ben is still waking up around 4 / 5am for a feed but he seems to be going longer as well. We try to put them to bed around 9am after a change/bath and feed so they're pretty consistant in what time they go to bed, and during the day they're back to feeding every 3 hours and their sleeps arn't scheduled at all!
Someone suggested to me that I do a sleep feed around 11pm to see if we can get ben through the night so i think i'll start doing that tomorrow if he doesn't go through tonight.
You're doing really well!!! And i'm pretty sure that getting them to sleep through the night at this age is pretty freakish... i'm not doing anything special - they're just doing it themselves!

At around 4 months mine began waking once during the night. You'd expect them to start STTN soon after, right? Well, let's just say mine are still not STTN and we've been doing CIO for the last 1.5 weeks.

I've noticed that a lot of babies will STTN by 4-5 months though. It really all depends on the baby. You may have one that STTN at 3 months and the other will be 9 months.

Take it from me...I tried everything, they will do it when they are ready, not much you can do to speed it up. Just to give you hope my boys went from waking every 2 hours to sleeping 11 hours (at 4 1/2 months)
