I've been doing lots of research into sleep training for our almost-6 month old boys because of how often they've started waking at night (not to eat, just waking). We still typically do one night time feed per night, but are getting sick of doing that too :).

My boys like their early bedtime, somewhere between 6-7pm. They go down without a fuss every night & down for most naps without any issues. I just don't understand why they can't soothe themselves back to sleep at night. And now they're waking each other...ugh!

So in my research, I've reviewed various methods, but all of them state that "STTN" is classified as 5-7 hr stretches. If that's the case, we technically DO STTN, but my boys tend to sleep 12 hrs at night (ok, they USED to) from 6/7 to 6/7. When can I expect them to be able to STTN 12 hrs?

PS Naps are so-so, usually 35-75 mins 3-4x/day. And NEITHER take pacifiers, so it's not like I can just wake up to 'replug' them at night! Do they need to sleep more during the day? Less?

The daytime sleep sounds about right - I wouldn't change anything. The night wakings could be any number of things - teething, more aware of their surroundings, developmental spurts... Are you thinking about CIO?

Daytime sleep sounds normal. When I say STTN, I mean 11-12 hours. Emma was STTN at 4 months, Jake not till 6 months. I had to do CIO with Jake because he was just waking for a paci, wasn't hungry.

Thanks for the input. I haven't decided about CIO yet. If we do, it'll be a modified type version, similar to how we did it when we 'trained' them to go to bed on their own in their cribs. I'm just more concerned about the CIO in the middle of the night effecting the other twin who innocently is trying to sleep :). I guess we may just have to split them up for a few nights. I'm still curious as to when we'll officially drop those night time feeds....hopefully soon! We thought we were making progress when they were taking 2-4oz & going back to bed (in my eyes, not hungry really), but lately they've been taking 6-8oz in their night feed. I'm hoping it's maybe just a growth spurt, or teething, or all the fun developmental tasks we're working on right now! I'm soooo jealous that you had little ones STTN for 11-12 hrs at such a young age! That'd be sooooo grand!

I'd say if they are drinking that much it's definitely a growth spurt! They should get over this phase soon and start sleeping more.

YEah mine come and go a little bit when I think they must be growing but usually 7-10 days and they are back on their schedule. My DD will sleep 12 hours. My DS gets up once to eat. I am trying to decide when to cut him off at night. He is not as good of an eater and I think that is his problem. He has been eating better the last 3 days so maybe it will come. It is great to have them sleeping 7 to 7. My DS even goes right back to sleep after eating.

    YIPPEE!

The boys slept from 7pm to 3am (for 5 oz bottles) to 6am! When I dropped them off at daycare at 7am, they still hadn't had their morning bottle & were perfectly content in the exersaucer & Jumperoo. We'll see how they do at daycare today & hope for another good night tonight!

    PROGRESS!
