Today we had therapy- I dragged the girls out in the snowy mess because we missed last week. The stroller could barely push through the parking lot. I tried to kick the snow off the wheels- but there was no place except through the doors that didn't have caked on snow- we're getting pounded right now. Anyhow, I asked the receptionist when we got in to the therapy office what she wanted me to do- I felt really bad it was making such a mess but what am I going to do?? My girls can't walk yet- and I can't carry them and all their stuff. She said not to worry - it wasn't the first and won't be the last mess of the day (granted this was at 11). Anyhow, I asked the OT when we got down the hall for a towel or something so I could clean it up and she helped me- it wasn't terribly bad but they had no mop and I didn't want someone slipping in it. Granted shoes were bringing it in too. I put the stroller in a room where they instructed me to the last session and this guy comes running over and says- we will need to put a sheet under that- I don't want it making the carpet gross- ok, understandable but I just asked 2 people what they wanted me to do- so I pull the stroller with Syd still in it (as Kaysie was crying in my arms) out and he puts a sheet down and then goes to push back the stroller all the while SYd is breaking down in tears because she is scared of him and what's going on and HE gets mad at me (mumbled something) because I didn't push it back right away (with a screaming kid in it!!!). The PT came out and was irritated with him for making such a production- she said it was fine- in the afternoon they have persons in wheelchairs come for therapy- and that is right where they put them.

I was just irritated because I offered to clean it up, do whatever it took as it already made me uncomfortable just making the small mess that I did. I am not a disrespectful person but the commotion of the staff put Syd into a tantrum because she was scared, etc. Good grief!!!!! I was thinking on the way home- what do they expect me to do with it? IT has to come with me- I have NO OTHER CHOICE! Maybe they should provide a mat or something where I could try to kick the snow off the wheels?? Or they need to get a mop and clean it up. It shouldn't have been MY issue- I offered to do what I could possibly do.

What do you do when you go to places and have to take the stroller and it's yucky out!?

I think you did all you could do. I usually try to kick the snow off as much as possible, but it still makes a mess. There really isn't a solution to it, other than places having mats that can collect the water and snow when you come through the door.

My feeling is if they aren't prepared for it knowing it is snowing out then shame on them.... It can't make much more of a mess then a all the snowy shoes coming in.

we have snow from november to april. I try to kick off most of the snow "snot" on the sidewalk near the entrance of the building. Otherwise, I just track it in and don't make a big deal about it. the gray grossness from all the snow is everywhere in the entrances to stores, etc. Sometimes I have carried my own towel to wipe things off, but the thing I hate more than draggin snow into an office/store is dragging it into my car. the backs of my front seats are awful from kids kicking it.

BTW I would have been a little irritated too at that person making a fuss about the mess. UM, DUH, it's winter, and there's snow. Make a snowball and stop complaining, dude, and clean up my mess...

Ditto -- you did the best you could. If anything, they should feel bad that you had to push your stroller through so much snow to get to the door. What are disabled people supposed to do?

You sound much more worried about it than I would have been.

    It is winter.

Minette- Good question- they have handicap parking spots- but it was tough going and it's not parking right in front of their building- the way it is landscaped, etc.

O [IMG]h my you've had a rough month with medical office staff!

No advice...we don't get much snow around here. When we do I charge out into it with my jogger, but just around the neighborhood. Seattle shuts down completely for 2 inches of snow. Nobody has any experience driving around in it so we all just play hookey. [IMG]

We use our Chariot jogging stroller for snow and it works like a charm. It has large bike wheels and goes through snow and sand easily.

I know that when I would take my chariot to the Y, I would use my snow brush to brush as much snow off the tires as possible, before going into the main area. This will only work if there is space just inside to clean the wheels. I found it to do a better job than using my boots to bang the snow off.
