So, I had my 40 week appointment today and I am 4cm and the Dr. stripped my membrane. Does this actually work?

I asked this same question the other day in the expecting twins forum. Most replied that it did not work for them. I believe one person said that it did. My doctor stripped mine on Tuesday. I felt crampy through the evening then nothing. Good Luck! I hope it works for you :)

I don't know if it works or not, but at 4 cm...I can't imagine it will be too much longer! YAY!

MIne were stripped twice with Ella and never worked, but I know of 2 women who it did work with!
    Good luck, Millie

I did not work for me at 38 weeks but I was only 1 cm dilated and I went to 41 weeks with my singleton.

It didn't work for my SIL who was over 40 weeks!

I wonder why they do it if it doesn't seem to work?

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. There's lot of things that doctors do to spur on labor that don't have a great success rate. They just want to "get things going" and those of us who are very pregnant definitely want to see them being proactive about getting that baby out even if it doesn't work. ;)

It worked for me...at 38 weeks my membranes were stripped on a Thurs afternoon...started contractions on Fri, about noon...baby was born on Sat at 6am...it was wonderful!! (the actual stripping part sucked, although I had no cramping or bleeding after) and for the record I was barely a fingertip dilated when he stipped the membranes...hope it works for you :winking0009: .

With my singleton it did not. My membranes were stripped at 40w and I didn't go into labor with her until exactly a week later at 41w, 12 hours before I was scheduled to be induced.

I'm pretty sure it worked for my SIL. Goodluck!
