Hello all! With my growing belly, I am starting to endure the ugliness of a few stretch marks.

I looked at the cream in the store, but it is so expensive that I wanted to check here before I actually purchased any. Do they work? Is there a certain brand that is better than others?

    Thanks!

    Hello,
I, too, just had my first stretch marks appear. Unfortunately, I have been using Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula for Stretch Marks, Olive oil, baby oil and a vitamin E oil to no avail. The one cream I have not invested in is Strivectin, because of its price. However, at this point I think it will be necessary to. I can't believe how quickly they started to appear in the last week. Perhaps you will have better luck than I have had...

I think any lotion will do the same job because time after time you read there is no real way to prevent them. I have been using burt's bees body butter and just some pure almond oil. I am keeping my fingers crossed because except for a couple on my side I am good, but I didn't really get any with my last two pregnancies either. They say they come from the inside out and heredity. make sure you are drinking tons of water.

Good luck! LOL! I have them and I have been using cream since I got pregnant, and it definitely didn't stop them.

There is no cream to stop stretch marks, unfortunately good genes is the only thing that will save you. Elasticity in your skin and family history is the best way for you to determine whether you will be blessed in the stretch mark department. Stretch marks happen when the body is growing faster then the skin can stretch, and well we all know with twins, we grow rather fast. Some ladies are just plain lucky and don’t get a single one. Some are a little less lucky, and though they may not get them on their bellies, they get them in other, not-so wonderful places. Though you can’t prevent them, after the baby is born you can apply scar lightening cream to make them less visible. I know with my first I spent a great deal of time and Money determined not to get stretch marks…I wasn’t so lucky. But I did find after I had my son, applying the knock off version of Mederma really helped lighten them, to where they weren’t as noticeable. Good luck ladies, and just remember, though they aren’t beautiful, they are our badge of mother-hood honor.

Nope. There is no cream or lotion or potion that will stop stretch marks. Like the PP said, it's genetics. Keeping your skin hydrated with moisturizer is a good idea so it doesn't get itchy, but sadly, even the expensive creams don't prevent stretch marks. Sorry to be one of the bearers of bad news....

For what it's worth, my stretch marks faded away by themselves within about six months. Now they're barely noticeable.

Christina is totally right. Both my docs say the exact same thing, as does all the research. You get them if they are in your genes. So use the lotions that make you happy. I get them genetically, but with my last pregnancy (and so far, this one) I've been lucky to not get a ton on my belly or breasts (let's not talk about my thighs and butt! TMI). When I asked my doc how to try to have less new ones, he responded with "DRINK LOTS OF WATER and HOPE"

And my husband calls them my "battle scars" and is proud of them. Plus, they do fade eventually. :)

Mine started showing up at 26 wks. They didn't have any patience with me at all. They took over over half of my poor abdomen. It doesn't look SO dramatic now that the girls are born, but it's still pretty bad. The sad part is that my mom never had ONE stretch mark during her pregnancies, then again.. she didn't have twins. Dang those asian skin genes that I didn't get, lol..

Learnt from my GP that you can use massage and cream post-natal to help reduce the stretch marks too. He told me its not hereditary!! I thot it is cos I've given up putting on cream! haha...

Thanks for all the posts ladies! I never knew that strtch marks could be hereditary. My mom got them with her pregnancies, so I guess it is inevitable! I will just try to keep lotion and keep hydrated and see what happens!

Boy, wouldn't we all be rich to come up with a secret lotion or potion to make them go away?

Mine came on pretty early here. But I have been using cocoa butter to help reduce the appearance and it has been helping, but they are still there.
