My boys have become slightly fascinated with straws. Whenever they see us drinking from them, they want to try! At first, they never got anything, but then POOF! They figured them out! So, I went & bought them 'big boy straw sippies'. They LOVE them! However, how do I teach them not to tip them up when they are drinking from them? Especially when something doesn't come out right away, they tip it up, get air, & cry. We keep trying to reiterate it's a "straw sippy" & to "put it down", but they always seem to revert back to their normal ways with all their other cups.

For those of you who have both cups...do your kids just 'get it' or is it just mine :)????

I am having this exact same problem. My girls tip their straw sippies up and suck and suck and suck. All they get is air. I can literally stand right there and try to hold the sippy down, but they push up with all of their strength. It's actually quite funny, but the poor girls get so frustrated. I hope someone else has an answer for us...

for the same reason, i only give the straw sippies when we are in the car or stroller, when they really can't tip back much....poor guys, when will they get it? LOL

We only half-way get it sometimes! Its a work in progress. But I dont give them alot of opportunity, maybe that is the issue too.

Hilarious, because we started out with straw sippies from the beginning, so mine now have no idea how to tip back regular sippy cups, LOL.

(What's more, they don't want to hold the straw cups anyway -- although they can just fine, because they always steal their big sister's -- so I have to do it for them. )

    Funny kiddos!

Mine are a little older and love straws, too. The only straw cups I got were the take-n-toss ones with a loose straw that fits reallly snugly in the lid, but my kids love to pull the straw out and then get mad they can't get it back in. They pretty much have the hang of not tipping it up anymore, it was just a ton of repetition ("Both hands, hold with both hands, NO don't tip! Just hold it .. NO don't tip!!!") :) They grasp it sooner or later.

right there with you ... we had our first toddler tantrum over a straw sippy ... I kept trying to hold it down to teach her not to tip it and she got royally PO'ed at me so I stopped and let her struggle ... and she threw the cup down and followed it with her little body and rolled around screaming for a bit ...

I just try to keep them around. The Nuby one is what we have ... they still tip it but I figure they will eventually learn ... if not, maybe it will get better when they can understand what we are telling them a little better ...

Took mine a week to "get it". I just kept reminding them and tilting their cups back down. Now they know.
