So, finally ventured out to lunch with the twins today (6 weeks old today). I fed them both before I left and was just going 10 mins up the road...how bad could it be right? Well, my DS has been very gassy lately, and today was no exception. He got fussy the second my food arrived. I was able to calm him for a bit, but then he just wouldn't let up. I took him out of his car seat and rocked him, bounced him, tried burping, etc.--just wanted to finish my meal, take 10 mins to catch up with my friend and head back home. The restaurant was very noisy and infant cries are pretty quiet, so I didn't feel too bad. UNTIL...this lady comes over and says "ma'm, sounds like your baby is very distressed." (with this concerned and condescending look on her face). I just wanted to say "oh really, my baby is crying, I didn't even realize." No kidding lady...give me a break. I have been trapped at home for 6 weeks with newborn twins and I just want to finish my meal so I produce enough milk to feed my children...UGH! I was so irritated. I hope this doesn't make me think twice next time I want to go out :(

    Like you didn't know!!

I would hate for someone to walk up and say that to me!

I would certainly have to say... "Are you kidding? I hadn't even noticed."

Congrats on going out to lunch with them! Mine are 6 wks old too and I haven't been able to get up the courage to take them out to eat without my husband. We go out every day but usually just to the Starbucks drive-through! They're going through a major fussy stage (pleeeeze let this be a stage!!) and I know they would have a melt down as soon as we sat down to eat. So good for you for getting them out, just ignore people's stupid comments!

Some people just can't stand to hear a baby cry even if it is just a little. I am one of those bad momma's who lets their kid cry a little if I know all the bases have been covered. I do try to keep them from crying when we are out in public, and it sounds like you were doing your best, when a baby is gonna cry he just is gonna cry, especially if you are trying to relax and enjoy a meal (how do they just know?)
I know when we visit FIL he just can't handle it and has to leave, which on the one hand I secretly enjoy b/c he is super annoying, heh heh. :p

I dunno...maybe I was just brought up differently, but my mama always taught us that if you didn't have something nice to say, then I should just mind my own business. I would *never* say anything like that to someone! Maybe she was trying to be helpful, but geez. Babies cry. It's not like you had a screaming, table dancing toddler.

And yeah...good job getting out there with them so early! I hope you were able to enjoy yourself despite the comment.

Good for you for getting out for a bit. A little crying never hurt any of them & that lady needs to learn to mind her own business, I'm sure it was obvious you were doing the best you could. Try not to let strangers bother you, believe me the remarks just get weirder & weirder! :)
