my g/g twins are 3.5 months old. one finally starting sleeping 11-12 hours and the other still got up for a 2 am feeding. she woke up at 4:45 this morning but with a scream, not a wah wah wah. but a piercing wah then a pause, wah, then a pause with real tears. almost like she was having a nightmare. no fever...I brought her into my bedroom to feed her a bottle and she drank it down. then fell asleep in my arms. I put her back in her crib and she started to cry again so I put her in the swing. she stayed awake in the swing for a bit then started to cry the same way again. It had been three hours since her bottle so I tried to feed her. she drank an ounce and passed out. now she is sleeping in her crib. should I call ped? any suggestions or ideas? thx

One of mine will do that too, not always, and often during naps. My guess is that she ishaving a bad dream, because usually with some patting and rocking she will go back to sleep, and when she is awake she is perfectly fine. I would'nt take her to the ped yet, unless she keeps doing it constantly.

Addison does that!!! the first time it happened I stripped her clothes off - thinking that something had bit or pinched her! nope -she was fine but now she does it every now and then - no fever or obvious rason for it here either!

My 2 year old DD has done this since she was about 5 or 6 months old. It's scary because she's screaming and I swear her eyes might be open, but she doens't see me at all - the pediatrician told me it's night terrors, and although she was young to begin them, it's not abnormal. Sure makes mommy/daddy scared!!!

OH - the WORST thing you can do is take her out of the crib - it startles them more. We just listen on the monitor, go in and make sure she's okay if it seems severe, and then she eventually stops. The pediatrician actually advised us on this.

If it is night terrors, then try not to worry. Night terrors are way worse to watch than have. (I have night terrors) The worst thing that happens when I wake up is briefly remembering my dream (zombies, always zombies for me) and my heart is racing, then I conk out. I am not mentally or emotionally scarred by them, DH sure is though! :shok:

Could be night terrors. Or maybe even a sudden belly ache...

DS has done that since he was about 9 months and one DD does this fairly often. It sure is scary every time though. I agree with PP taking them out of bed makes is WORSE.

When mine has done that I have found gas to be the culprit. Eventually after the screaming, toots come and then they calm down. So, maybe she has a belly ache.
