I am trying to figure out how much storage I am going to need for twins clothing, blankets, diapers, and all that stuff. I go to the store and see the set ups with a crib, a chest of drawers, and a dresser with a changing table on top. I honestly can't see buying a changing table that is not a dresser. I think I might need that many drawers though. You can only hang and pile so much stuff. Your opinions, ladies, please! My DH suggested hanging shelves inside the closet underneath the clothes. Mightn't that get awkward though? I am having a boy and a girl. [IMG] I'm afraid that means I need more room for sure! [IMG] [IMG]

Fortunately baby clothes are tiny [IMG], and don't take up THAT much space! I'll give you my tips for storage, although my home is not tiny, it was built in 1896, and they didn't believe in closets back then!

Use a long dresser with mirror on the back as your changing table. (You know the kind like most everyone has in their bedrooms!) This serves many purposes:
    1. Lots of drawers
    2. Babies love mirrors
    3. You can use this piece forever, not so with a changing table
    4. Buy the foam changing pad, place it on top, you will still have lots of room for a basket with diapers, wipes, etc. on top of the drsser.

For those who say this is not safe, I've NEVER left a baby unattended on top of the dresser, and I don't think you will either.

Storing junk, out of site, this is my best trick....throw away the dinky dust ruffle that comes with most baby bedding. Make a coordinating dust ruffle that goes to the floor (or of course have one made), this came be done for under $30. Once you have the space under the bed hidden you don't have to feel guilty for throwing boxes of diapers, etc. under the bed.

Also don't get so caught up in the baby furniture that matches the bed. They aren't in those beds forever, their clothes get bigger, and children's furniture just doesn't have the storage space of "regular" furniture (i.e. the drawers aren't as deep). Think simple, classic pieces that can grow with the child.

    I hope this helps.

We bought a tall chest of drawers and the dresser/changing table combo that we put a changing pad on top of. We use one for the boys clothes and one for the girls. We have enough room in the tall one for gender neutral clothes as well.
We only have 0-6 month clothes in the dressers and we hung up the rest in the closet.

We had a small three-drawer dresser with a changing table top from Ikea, a small wardrobe/amoire from Ikea, and then our dinky little closet. DH added a second bar so that we had two rows of clothes that could fit in the closet. We had MORE than enough room for all their things. But, we split the kids up into their own rooms at 18 mos, and we did buy a new dresser. They trick is to constantly clean out their clothes that they outgrow, and to use that space under the crib. We bought some cool bins for under the crib that hold their toys (also from Ikea!).

We have limited space - townhouse. So we have 2 cribs one changing table w/ drawers (similar to this one) http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?p...rentPage=family

Then in the closet we have shelves w/ plastic buckets to hold things (I think it's actually a toy shelf - but I'm keeping lots of things in there.

Also, I'm keeping lots of stuff under the two cribs. We don't have room for anything else but a glider so we'll just have to make due.

My daughter received a nursery storage cart from Target (see link below) as a shower gift. Her nursery is tiny but she had just the right amount of space to fit this cart in next to the dresser/changing table combo.

It's not real sturdy and doesn't hold a lot of weight so DD chose not to put diapers in it like the picture shows. Instead she filled the bins with receiving blankets, bibs, burp rags, etc., things that will be nice to have handy and easily accessible. That helped to free up drawer space for clothes. It works great for this purpose and is not expensive.
