    Hi Everyone,

I gave my notice at work about my last day. I told my boss it would be 2/16/2007. This would put me in the middle of my 34th week.

Now, I am wondering it this is too early or too late. Can people share during what week they stopped, or planned to stop work?

    Thanks!!!

I was wondering the same thing. But I took a twins class (I live in NYC) and the nurse strongly recommended to stop work around 28 to 30 wks. Therefore, I am going to stop work around 30 wks, if I can make it. I am 24 wks now and I have a tough time at work.

    Good luck,
    Katie

I told my boss January 13th which will be 30 weeks. I'm feeling okay except for terrible leg cramps and I think the only way to get rid of that is to have my feet up.

Plus the doctor recommended 28 weeks, but I can definitely make it to 30.

My doctor had me stop working at around 28 weeks with my twin pregnancy. I was lucky enough to get short term disability until the babies were born and then my maternity leave started once they were born.

I told work I wanted to try and make it to the end of the year (which was 36 weeks) and my dr. kept warning me that was optimistic. I ended up being put on bed rest around 25 weeks, but was able to keep working from home until 32 weeks.

I would let work know your intent is to work until 34 weeks, but that your dr. may write you out sooner.

I've been able to go on short term disability so i get my full benefits. I would talk to your HR and find out what your options are.

I live in NYC too. Was the class offered thru your hospital? Or, did you go somewhere specific for twins? If you can let me know, I would be very interested in attending this type of class.

    Thanks.

    Hi,
The class I took was a semi-private class. It is taught by Sheri Bayles, she is wonderful and very funny. You can contact her at 203 853 4812 - she lives in CT but does classes in NYC. She is also a lacation consultant, and she breastfeed her twins for 9 months.

Where are you in NYC? I live in Park Slope.

with my DS my doctor told me when he didn't want me to work anymore, he told me at a Friday appointment that that would be my last day of work...I'm assuming he will do the same this time...I would talk to your doctor about when he wants you to stop working.

I worked right up to the day before I delivered (38 weeks). I know a lot of doctors put it at 28 weeks automatically. It all depends on your kind of work and how you are doing.

My doctor put me off work at 28 weeks. I've been off ever since and I am now a SAHM.

I had been told during my 3rd (Fullterm) pregnancy that i was not allowed to work at all while i am pregnant due to miscarriages. 2 of mine mine were stress related and losing two within 4 months was really hard and it was even harder when i found out that i was pregnant again 6 months after the second one. so the doctor said no work. it was hard for me to quit my job when i found out i was pregnant with my daughter but i didn't want to risk losing her. you are far enough along that you don't have to worry about what i had gone through. if i could have worked to the end i would have though. it would have really helped us out financially the whole time. my first son i worked up to my 6th month. and i didn't work at all with my 2nd son.
good luck to you and merry christmas to you and your family!!

I'm still working right now. I am 32 weeks. We are starting Christmas break (I teach) after tomorrow. Then, I'll be off for 2 weeks. I'm not sure if I'm going back after the holidays. ???

I'm trying to make it to 28-30 weeks. I work 12-13 hour days on my feet as a nurse. I will then take leave and get short term disability and be off 3 months. I'm now 24 weeks so I have another month on my feet to go.

My doc is fine with me working as long as I want, but I want to stop as of the first of January which will be 32 weeks for me. I have short term disability which is nice so I don't feel bad taking my last month off.

Also, these are our first kids and I'm starting to freak a little about having everything ready for them for their arrival. So I'm going to enjoy taking the time to really think about what they're going to need and what we have or don't have and nesting and all that. Anyway, I'm stopping at 32 weeks cause as of yesterday I'm measuring full-term and feeling it so I figure I (and the babies) deserve this time to take it easy!

My doc's goal was 32 weeks. I thought that sounded ridiculously early, but she said "Trust me, you'll be begging to stop even earlier than that!!!" Well I was put on hospital bedrest, then strict bedrest, at 24 weeks. So that is when I officially stopped working.

I just "assumed" (HA HA) that I would work up until the end...as I did with each of my three previous pregnancies...but, low and behold, on November 30th at my weekly appt. which would have put me at 24 weeks, I was told to stop working and I was now on bed rest.

So...the decision was made for me quite early! UGH!

You really need to play it by ear. If you feel OK and the babies are doing great, there should be no need for you to leave work too early.

Financial situation can also be a major factor in determining how long you need to work for.

34 weeks would be a fairly good time IMHO, as by then you wont feel like doing too much.

I worked everyday until 37 weeks then was working from home until the night before my induction.

I was originally told I would need to leave work at 28 weeks. I teach third grade and 28 weeks was right when we were going back to school. It's a long story, but I switched OB's and ended up with the head of the practice and he took a wait and see approach. I really wanted to start the year with my new class to establish my routines etc. I planned to work to 34 weeks 4 days and I would only have my students 1/2 days that last week due to conferences. I had it all planned out and started work uneventfully but did make a few modifications to help out-ie I usually stand at my overhead so we moved it to a table so I could sit. I worked until 32 weeks 6 days. I went to work on about an hour of sleep having been restless all night. I drove home exhausted and in tears. Took the next day off and went to a reg. OB appt knowing we would have to talk about leaving work. Not only did she say def. not to go back to work, I was sent to L&D due to suspected pre-term labor. I pushed too hard and didn't listen to my body when work started to be too much just before 32 weeks. Luckily, the ptl was stopped and I delivered 5 weeks later. A co-worker is pregnant with B/G twins and is 32 weeks now and won't be coming back to work in Jan.

I had planned to stop at 32 weeks and my peri thought this was ambitious. *shrug* He said that most twin moms have stopped work by 30 weeks. I am still going to aim for 32 wks but of course, will stop if I just can't handle it anymore. Judging by how I feel lately, I am thinking my peri may be right.

Forgot to say that I also get SDI and get time before the birth to take off (that I didn't take with DD pregnancy) and so I am looking forward to that time now! That said, I did tell the peri that quite often, it's easier for me to go to work than stay home and take care of my daughter. At home, I have to lift her and whatnot. At work, I sit on my butt all day. [IMG]

I stopped working in the office at 31 weeks although I continued to work from home until the day I delivered at 34 weeks 4 days.

My goal was to make it thru friday 12/22, since campus closes for a week and a half over the holidays, and then officially go on leave in January. That put me at 32 weeks, but I have to say that week 30 was so tough, with tons of bh, swelling, and wicked, burning sciatica, that I took that Friday off and worked half days for my last week. Definitely listen to your body and do whatever you have to to avoid PTL.

Thank you all so much for posting this! I've been wondering the same (I'd 1/2 really like to keep working but physically I've been wondering how people work through the 1st trimester, much less the 3rd with twins!). Thanks especially to the other NY-area posters, TwinsNY2007 and mccabewilson,; I am scheduled to take a class with Sheri Bayles at my OB's office, so that is good to know more about her background and preferences.
