At what point will your doctor stop preterm labor and at what point will he not stop it and let you deliver? If I am 30, 32, 35 weeks, will most doctors let you deliver or will they try to stop labor?
I meant to ask my OB yesterday at my appt, but I forgot. Can you give me some insight as to what you've been told?

I went into PTL at 31 weeks. The Dr's worked very hard at stopping labor, and were successful. I also got my steriod shots at this point. They admitted me and I lived in the hospital for 2 weeks. After I was discharged I was back in L&D (34wks.5days) with a migrane. They induced at this point. But I had pre-eclampsia too.

I think that it differs case by case. I do not think that before 34-35 weeks that they would want you to deliver without trying to stop you. (also, I had spoke with the NICU team when it was a possibility that I would deliver at 31 wks. From what they said you really do not want to deliver till 35 wks if you can hold off. But you know how thay tell you the worse case senarios)

from everything I've heard and read 34 weeks seems to be a pretty standard cut off point for not stopping labor. I think most hospitals will try to stop labor b-4 that point unless there's another reason to deliver early.

The cut off with our dr was 34 weeks. I think that tends to be pretty standard.

Mine was 34 weeks. I was in and out of the hospital up until 32 weeks. When I went back at 34 weeks, they went ahead and did a c-section. They didn't try to give me meds like they did in previous visits.

I agreee with 34 weeks. I had PTL at 30 weeks and was hospitalized from weeks 30-32 with terb. I was admitted again and the end of 32 weeks (terb again) and then again about 4 days before delivering (this time I was placed on mag and terb). They took the mag drip out at 34 weeks. They told me they would only give me terb after that to calm the contractions, but would take no further measures to stop labor (mag had quite working by that point too). AFter I went off the mag, I had 2-3 more shots of terb and NOTHING was stopping anything so I delivered at 34w1d.

My doctor would stop labor until 35 weeks. I started having preterm labor at 29 weeks and was on terbutline (sp?) every four hours. I went into labor at 35 weeks 3 days and the doctor did not stop me. DS came home with me and DD had ten days NICU time. I wish I could have held them in longer but I think my body was just done. HTH.

My doctor would/did stop labor before 36 weeks. I was having contractions since 31 weeks. At 33 weeks the contractions were every 2-3 minutes and I was dialating so they gave me steroid shots and I was put on Terbutiline and told to take it until I hit 36 weeks. Although my contractions never stopped completely and I still continued to dialate just no as much. Honestly I was very against the thought of stopping labor and wanted to leave it in the lords hands. But The doctor on call (My doctor just happened to be on vacation that week) didnt give me an option it was either let them do it or they would call CPS on me for "endangering my children".
I delivered at 37+2 and my babies came home with me 2 days later with no complications or NICU time. So all in all it worked out but honestly I'm not sure if the terbutiline really changed the outcome much.
