O.k., I know the whole back to sleep thing and I understand why, but, I was wondering if any of you put your babies on their stomaches to sleep. I decided to bite the bullet and give it a shot this afternoon because my boys won't nap well during the day in their cribs, they will only sleep in the swing and I think that it's causing problems when we put them to bed at night. Anyway, they are still sleeping and they went down at 1:30 (it's 3:45 now). This is the longest nap they've ever taken. It seems like they are alot more comfortable on their tummies in the crib. Thoughts?

We also put ours to sleep on their stomachs at 2 months. We discussed it with our pediatrician and he said that as long as we were consistent then on their stomachs would be okay. They were able to lift their heads already so that it is why we were comfortable with the decision. They slept soooooooooo much better during nap time and at night. They still sleep on their stomachs.

My oldest always slept on his stomach as a baby except when he still had his cord. That was what I was told to do and he is now 12 who tells me he's practically grown up and wants to be referred to as a teen. I also was living in an efficiency at that time and good pretty much watch him sleep all night. My son Ty never even got tummy time after his first heart surgery because I was afraid if I put him on his tummy his heart would stop. But these babies as soon as they started rolling over I knew that there was no way for me to keep them from sleeping on their stomachs and my sons' pedi agreed that keep them on their backs until they can turn over because if they do have problems breething then they will automatically turn.

So my advise to you is just try laying them on their sides or backs until the day you can't keep them on their backs any longer.

We put ors on their tummys for naps sometimes. Our pedi said it was ok as long as we're awake and checking on them. Most of their naps are in the living room anyway where I can see them so I feel ok doing that since they can lift and turn their heads. I always put them on their backs or propped slightly to the side at night (my DD spits up sometimes) because they can't roll over yet.

I think many babies sleep better on their tummies!! I SWEAR my nephew is going to be a tummy sleeper. He's 4 mos. and I am just waiting for him to get to his tummy on his own and then I'll let him go on his tummy, or wait for SIL to give the go ahead!

You might have found your "magic" bullet so to speak!! I hope it continues to work for you!

I put my boys on their bellies for naps because it was the only way I could get one of them to sleep at all for naps. It did create a problem because I wasn't comfortable doing it at night (during the day I could check on him all the time) and he would only go to sleep on his tummy. We ended up having to put him on his tummy and then flipping him over once he went to sleep. Now that he can roll though it doesn't matter how I put him, he does whatever he wants.

I put mine to sleep on their stomach as soon as they could hold their heads up. Mine spit up pretty bad so I was equally afraid that they'd choke on the spit up on their backs. Didn't ask the ped, just did it, my daughter always slept so much better on her tummy. We did wait until she could roll over though.
