I am hoping someone has some advice or help for me. My son potty trained early and just got it when he was 27 mo. daytime that is. He is now a few months away from 5 and still wears a diaper/pull-up. I have continued to put them on him because he is always wet in the a.m. There have been a handful of times that he has been dry but those are far and few between. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him completely potty trained at night? TIA!

I used to babysit a little girl that has the same issue. Her parents spoke to her Pedi and he perscribed some machine thing that as soon as it gets wet it goes off and wakes them off, it helps them recognize when they have to pee while asleep.

From what I understand it's not something that doctors worry about until after 6 years of age - for some kids it just takes that long. Night time is tricky because there are a lot of factors involved in being able to wake from sleep, realize you need to pee & then getting up & doing it. And all of it is developmental & not necessarily something that can be taught/learned.

That being said, have you tried waking him & putting him on the toilet when you go to bed? Or waking him about an hour before his usual time & sitting him on the toilet?

Also try limiting fluid after supper time. Let the cups stay out during the day, but take it away after eating, only allowing a sip before bed. Make sure he pees before bed, and I agree with waking him before you go to bed and helping him to go again. It really is just a developmental thing and nothing to be concerned about yet :)

I'm not sure if jazz would wake up if she needed to pee. She was wetting the bed pretty frequently when she was around 5. We have to make her go potty before bed and limit her to no more than three oz of water close to bed time. We haven't had any issues since then. I do not wake her up to go pee again during the night

THIS! My son was in pull ups at night until 5.5 years old. It was seriously last Spring that he was finally able to control that at night. Limit drinks after supper and a potty right before hopping into bed. When he was dry for 2 weeks, we switched him to regular underwear at night and held our breath. He's had 1 accident in 9 months!

Jayden is 7 and still in a nighttime Pull-up. There's not much else you can do. I limit his drinks and he goes to the bathroom before bed .. but will still wake up wet most mornings. The Dr said it's a chemical thing and he'll outgrow it eventually.

My oldest DS is also 7 and still in a pull-up. Pediatrician also says it is not a big deal, a good number (20%?) of kids continue to need nighttime pull-ups well after 4.
