Still "spitting up"

My DD was diagnosed as a "happy spitter" (technical term from our pedi) early on. Basically, she spit up always, after every bottle, and quite a bit. There were times we wondered how much she was really getting. Our pedi always said not to worry about it because it didn't seem to bother her. She never cried or fussed, just spit up, and kept on going. He said it'd get better once she was more "upright".

It has gotten tons better, but she still "spits up" 1-2 times a day. I put it in quotes, because at this point it looks and smells more like vomit than baby spit up. Do any of you have this? Is there anything I should give her? It still doesn't seem to bother her, it's just inconvenient and gross to always be cleaning if off of her, her clothes, and her toys.

It smells like vomit, but I guess it doesn't look like it. Sometimes it has food chunks in it, but it's usually mostly watery, with white bits (like from her milk).

    Any thoughts or experience?

My girls weren't happy spitters, but they did spit up almost all day everyday before they started drinking regular milk. I know the smell you are speaking of...it's definitely vomit. I find that if my girls eat too much or drink too much liquid in one day they will throw up a bit especially if they're teething. They aren't in any pain and they don't even seem to notice it happening so I'm not worried about it.

Is your DD walking? Nate was like a volcano of vomit for the longest time. I have a "lovely" video of him saying his first word, then puking at the end. :bad: He started walking at 13 months and it completely went away once he was more upright. Maybe there was less pressure on his belly when he wasn't sitting or crawling. :pardon:

Nate's spitup at the end was definitely more vomit-smelling than spitup-smelling. Poor thing smelled like puke most days. :(

Not walking yet, and yes I want to bathe her every night even if I only bathe DS every other night just because I can't stand cuddling with her and smelling that smell!!

I'm hoping the walking will take off soon, and that will help. Or she might be like orangeyaglad's girls and keep going - I think it might be the too much food or liquid you mentioned because she loves to eat and it always happens soon after meals!!

Okay, good to know I'm not not alone in doing "nothing"!

As long as there is weight gain and no discomfort then I wouldn't worry. I know what you're speaking of, though, and I can't stand it! Lia is my spitter. Both girls were actual reflux babies, but Eve grew out of it completely. It's rare if she ever spits up anymore and if she does it's because I pushed on her belly somehow. Lia is no longer "reflux-y" as far as discomfort and frequency goes, but she still spits up at least once every day or two. She needs frequent baths, too, because the smell makes ME want to vomit  And since our girls are still on formula and bottles, I'm afraid it will never end.

Emaline does the exact same thing. The vomit smell and everything. Actually, in the last 3 weeks it has pretty much stopped completely. I have no idea why, because she's still not walking. I hope it's gone for good!
