They are so close to walking, yet still so far away.

Both Morgan and Piper will stand up and look really proud of them selves, Mummy will congratulate them and they get all excited but that’s it….

They cant grasp onto the fact that if they move their feet forwards they will move forward too.

I try take them by the hand and pull them forward to encourage them to take a step but they will just get scared and cry then sit back down.

There is a cute side to this though, when they are both standing they will hold each others hands and bob up and down like they are dancing, they smile and giggle with each other. I will have to get photos.

I know this is one step forward to not even standing at all but does anyone have any tips as to what I can do to further encourage them to take a step.

I say just continue to sit on the floor away from them an encourage them to come to you. Maybe when they pull up, sit at the other end of what they are up on (coffee table, etc) and encourage them to cruise to you. That helped mine a lot. Good luck. They will surprise you one day by just popping up and doing it! :D

The girls aren't walking yet either, I get worried because I see all these other babies walking who are younger than them. I try and practice with them everyday but they would just rather crawl, so I guess when they're ready they will walk.

Mine did not walk until 15 and 17 1/2 months! Now they run....

Try putting toys on a table so they have to 'reach or stand' for them, push toys were a hit here too...

Remember that they came early so they really aren't behind at all. They will walk when they are ready. Mine were about 13 months when they walked, but my boyfriend's baby didn't walk until almost 16 months and she was not a preemie. I think that up to about 18 months you shouldn't be worried, but you really need to factor in the time for their early delivery too. I think they are doing fine if they are pulling up and cruising on furniture. It will happen...don't worry.

Mine did the same thing right before they started walking. They just have to get brave enough to take that first step alone. We did what you are doing, tried to get them to walk holding their hands.

Do they use walkers? Fisher Price makes a great walker, my boys would fight over it so I would suggest getting 2 lol.

Are yours cruising yet? Both of mine had to cruise for at least a month before they would walk alone. We also had a few push toys and when they got better at cruising, they loved to push the toys. One thing that also helped (Sarah especially) was to put a fridge toy up at her eye level (when she is standing). DH swears Sarah learned to stand on her own just so she could play with that toy with both hands. It's a LeapFrog Magnetic Farm (or something like that).

Both of them also stood for at least a week (maybe more) before finally walking. Encouragement was not much good on Amy -- she just sort of did it one day. For Sarah, once she was freestanding, we'd set her down and then back off a few feet and she would stagger to us (the classic baby way). Amy never went for that, she just wanted to go her own way.

I have one walker & one cruiser. I'm convinced dd2 could walk, if she wanted to try. Do you have some of those walker/push toys? All my girls love those.
It'll come- I just remind myself that she won't be a crawling kindergartner ;) .

Push toys are great. I totally think they are why Jessy walked when she did. We have the fisher price shape sorter push toy(it takes up little room) and we have a baby buggy but those might still be too tall for your girls

I agree that push toys help a bit. Dd is just starting to walk 10 or so steps without us leading her to.
We also sit in front of her and tel her to come get the book or whatever toy and this encourages her to come. I try not to push too hard because I know she can and will when ready.

Also DS is walking and wow it makes me wanna wait on prodding her along...... :D

Ditto the push toys. Bea never really took to them, but Ainsley loved push toys, and would push anything along, like laundry baskets, toybox, etc. Also, we put toys on the sofa kind of lined up so she would cruise. Bea was the just take off and started walking baby whereas Ainsley practiced for months, she didn't walk until close to 19 months. Try not to worry, they will walk!

ds started walking at about 13-14 months but dd only started walking a few weeks ago. I did nothing in particular to help her just encouraged her to walk holding on to my fingers and to play standing (like in fornt of a table) to help strenghten her legs and help her gain confidence in her balance. DD does see a PT for being a bit delayed in her gross motor skills but is doing great now!!

I wouldn't worry. They'll walk when they want to. (They probably already do when you're not looking.) They have all their lives to do it.
