I think I remember reading that you can do this after like 24 weeks. But I am not sure. You will also be able to hear your own heartbeat so it wont be very reliable.

It didn't work for us, but we had a cheap scope.

It's really hard to hear because your heart beat will drowned theirs out

I have a really good scope and it worked on my single baby, not sure about more than 1.
I would ask at the doc's the next time to see if you can hear on one of theirs.

If you do decide to get one you would need to get a good one to hear anything. Personally, I wouldn't advise it as it is sometimes hard for the doctor who is highly trained to hear the babies this way. I have even had doctor's who have had trouble hearing the heartbeats and distinguishing everyone's heartbeat with a doppler (mostly early on). At the beginning they would just use a portable ultrasound to find the heartbeats. I did mention to my doctor at one point renting a doppler and she said don't do it, all it does is create worry when you can't find them. So, although the temptation is great, I would advise against it. You of course will need to decide on your own, but personally I can think of a lot of other things that you can spend money on that you will actually be able to get use out of with your twins... ;)
