Steroid shots

So I had my ob appt. yesterday and found out that my cervix has drastically shortened and thinned out-the dr could feel Baby A's head it is so low, but I was not dilated-though I was having contractions-I have been having BHC since 24 wks. They did the FFN and I should know those results sometime today. I was sent to L&D for round 1 of 2 of the steroid shots and I have to go back tonight at 6pm for #2. My dr didn't want to wait on the results of the FFN after he felt the babies head so low.
We were there for 4 hrs, plus a 2 hr dr visit. They found that I was contracting every 7-8 mins and gave me a shot of terbutaline to stop them-it worked thankfully. Hopefully my FFN comes back neg. I will be 33 wks tomorrow and they are hoping I make it another 2-3 wks...
The good news is the babies are still head down, moving a lot, good fluids, and strong heartbeats...I am packing my bag today and DH is installing car seats and setting up the pak-n-play and swings. The nursery is all set, so I don't have anything to do but rest and keep these babies in!
Keep your fingers crossed that I get a neg FFN-this is so overwhelming and I haven't slept much tonight-so I am heading back to bed to try to get some sleep.

 

I am worried too. I wish my OB would give me the steroid shots. I am already 50% effaced, 1cm dialated and when she checked me Wed. she said she could feel twin a's head also. I have also been having a ton of contractions. They told me not to come in though till they are 5 minutes apart. I am ready for my babies but I would like to make it to at least 34-35 weeks.

Have you asked them about the about the getting the shots? It would be a bonus for the babies at this point. Do they do the FFN test? I got my results this morning and they are thankfully negative! I totally understand how you feel-I want to make it to 35 weeks-I would feel the best about that too. Good luck and talk to your doctor about the shots-they can be given between 24-34 weeks, so you still have time!

 

Oh those steroid shots are wonderful!!! I truly believe they helped my twins, since they were born so early (see siggy), not have any breathing or lung problems at all. And Emilie was only on the vent for 4 days and Trevor NEVER went on one. I truly believe the shots helped, that and lots of prayers!! So be glad you got them.

Hi...we are at the exact same time in our pregnancy...i too will be 33 weeks tomorrow...very exciting. And I just finished recieving steroid shots. I got one yesterday and one today. I am having alot of BH but they have not had to give me terbutaline as of yet!

I had my last OB appointment on thursday and my cervix was 90% effaced, but as far as i know the cervix is still closed...phew...wanna keep the monkeys in for at least 2 more weeks.

I am glad that you got the shots, and whooo hooo on that negative fFN test. Rest up and enjoy your last few weeks of pregnancy. Hopefully they will be stress-free!!!

 

Moontwins, Dr802 and Chris02, we are all around the same. I am 33 weeks tomorrow!!!!! I am 1cm dilated and having BH irregularly but I go this Tuesday for the swab to make sure I don't have bacteria 'down there' and to check if I am more dilated. I had the FFN test last Sunday and it was negative but they tell me things can change and quickly. We should all keep in touch since it sounds like we will be delivering very close together.

It looks like we are all going through the same things-we need to keep updating each other...I went last night for my 2nd steroid shot and they monitored me for about 2 hrs-I was having random BH so they let me go home without another trebutaline shot-the dr also said things can change if I keep contracting too much even though my ffn came back neg-I am 33 wks today and keeping my fingers crossed for 2 more weeks! Hang in there girls!

 

I really believe those shots help. My boys were born at 32 weeks and I got them right about 30 weeks and we had no breathing or lung issues at all.
