At my last appointment on Thursday the doctor wrote me a prescription for a steroid. At my next appointment I will be 28 weeks and he is going to go ahead and give me the steroid shot. He is very concerned with preterm labor, especially because I'm already showing signs of pre-e and am on modified bedrest at 24 weeks.

Has anyone else had the shot early?

I had the steroid at 20 weeks (silly!) and 25 weeks. They kept thinking I would deliver any day and I'm still here. They're not bad shots though, a little painful for a minute or two, but so effective for our babies. :)

I had them at 28wks. My OB did it for anyone at risk for PTL. Since I was pg w/ twins, that did it. It was just to be on the safe side. I did not have any PTL issues, and went on to have my girls at 36.5wks.

They hurt a little bit, but I had no side effects.

I had them later in my pregnancy, but wanted to tell you: one nurse gave me the shot really quickly and it burned something awful, the next day, a different nurse gave it slowly and I barely felt it. So, ask if they'll do it slowly!

I find getting an IV placed in my hand much worse than the two steroid shots I got in the backside at 26ish weeks. (I had one, then the other 24 hours later. I have TTTS, PTL and weak cervix.)

I got a round at 24 weeks and another round at 28 weeks. I delivered at 30 weeks and both girls were on a vent less than 12 hours with room air only (no oxygen).

I had mine at 30 weeks when I was put on hospital bedrest. Mine were born at 32 weeks with no major respiratory issues whatsoever. I think the shots made all the difference. Its great that you are getting them. I dont remember if they hurt of not.

I had my first shots at 26 weeks and another round at 30w5&6days. I delivered at 31 weeks and neither of my girls had breathing issues.

I got mine at 33 weeks with a single pregnancy d/t contractions. It was no biggie, the worst part about it was we had to get one every 12 hours for 48 hours or something so it was a lot of back and forth.

Well, it's good to see that I'm not the only one who will or has gotten the shot early. I know that it is extremely helpful for the babies, and I'm all for that...just a little nervous that the babies may be born early.

Yep, I got them at 24w when I had an emergency cerclage. I truly believed it helped my two immensely. Even though they were very early, neither one has ever had any breathing or lung problems. While in the NICU Emilie was on a vent for 4 days and Trevor NEVER went on one, see my siggy for their early delivery dates. I really really believed they helped!!!

I got the shots early in the 34th week, while hospitalized for PIH. My OB knew that my babies would be coming soon, so he wanted to give them the best chance at avoiding NICU. My boys arrived at 35w0d - and their lungs were in great shape. One twin needed no NICU time, and the other needed just 18 hours (but that was because of trauma suffered during delivery).

I got the shots at 24wks because of an emergency cerclage and barely-there cervix. I think you should absolutely get them if you are at any risk of early labor. They really do wonders for the babies. And to me they only hurt for just a second.

I got them in the hospital at 32 weeks when I was showing signs of Pre-e. It's a better safe than sorry kind of thing. They are good for 2 weeks and not very effective after 34 weeks so I only had them once. I didn't notice any side effects. My girls were born at 36 weeks.

I had a round right at 24 weeks, and a rescue dose 48 hours before delivery (at 31 weeks). I believe they are very beneficial to your babies.
