steroid shoots

hi there my name is nicolina and i have this question.eventhough my labor is doing well iam in 31wk and3d with cervix 1cm iam wondering wether i should take steroids pls advice me

With 1cm at 31 weeks, I would ask your peri. Are you contracting with a high likelihood of your cervix shortening and dialating, or is it just naturally shortening in preparation for labor. Talk with your doctor about the steroid shots, I don't think they would hurt, but I'm not 100% sure they are necessary in your situation.

 

I have heard that it doesn't hurt to have them (even if you end up not needing them). I was 34w and was 4cm and in labor, and my doc gave them to me in the hospital prior to possibly delivering. We were able to hold off on delivering, but just in case we delivered she gave them to me. I would ask your doc!

 

I got them last week at 32 weeks 4 days and again in 24 hours. I was dialated to a 1 but was contracting and admitted to the hospital. My dr. said it was just a precaution in case they couldn't stop the labor. I'm at home now and am 34 weeks and 1 day and still going strong on bedrest Good Luck!

 

Like the others said, if you are at risk of delivering early it does not hurt to have the shots. The only work well up to 2 weeks after receiving them though so that's something to keep in mind when discussing it with your doctor. Also, getting more than one series of shots is not recommended because there haven't been any good studies on how that affects the baby.
