AFM - I am freaking out a bit! I went into L&D yesturday evening as I was getting really bad lower back pain and pressure. They put me on the moniter to see if I was contracting and it turns out that I have an irritable uterus. But what I am freaking out about is that they checked my cervix and yes it is still short (nothing new there) but it is starting to dilate. The doctor said it isn't quite 1 cm dilated. They waited 2 hours to check it again and there was no change. Thank God for that! I am just so scared to have these babies to early! I am only 32 weeks 1 day today and I really want to make it past 34 weeks. The Doctor told me to prepare myself for it to happen at anytime. Baby Girls head is right there she could feel it when she checked my cervix.

Everyday without labor now is a blessing!

Of the couple of twin boards I'm on I know there are quite a few women who have made it even being 2-4 cm. dilated for several weeks if not a month or more. So it is possible.

I was debating whether or not myself to go in and get checked today. I'm having alot of pressure down there, and I wonder if things are starting to happen! I'm almost 34 weeks though...but still want to make it to atleast 36 weeks!

    Thanks fromthecabbagepatch!

If you are at all worried or concerned I would go in. That is what they are there for and with a twin pregnancy you just never know. Hopefully it is nothing and then you can go home with peace of mind.

Hoping that we both make it to 36 weeks!

I had been on modified bedrest for almost 3 weeks when I started having contractions at 32 weeks and was put in the hospital for 5 days on a mag sulfate drip. Was dilated to 3cm and 80%. Got discharged and have been on bedrest since then at home and this tues I'm having a c-section to finially evict these girls. :D I will be 36 1/2 weeks and as of yesterday I'm still 3cm and 80%. So it is definitly possible to go a lot longer.
Good luck! You can do it!!!

I'm sorry you are worrying about dilating. Just try and think positive. Did you dr. mention the steroid shots, just in case you deliver early?

Summerfun - Yeah I have already got the steriod shots at 29 wks when I had the Positive Ffn test. They told me that you can only get the steriod shots once so I guess that is done. My concern is that the steriod shots effectiveness is only 7-10 after you have the shot and I am 3 weeks after the shot and if they come now then they don't get the effects of the steriods.

Glad you got them. I will tell you that I got my steroid shots and then Trevor was not born for 3 more weeks and at 27 weeks he NEVER went on a ventilator. He didn't have any (and still doesn't) have any breathing or lung issues while in the NICU. So I think really believe they still helped him lots. :good:

The Dr's told me that they only give them once because after that there are side effects to giving the steriods more then once. They say that it can effect development in the babies.

Well, I got news 3 weeks ago that I was dilated to 1 cm and I'm still going strong. I think you can be dilated for a while and still make it pretty far. I was at 27 1/2 weeks I think and now I'm over 30. My doc was feeling pretty confident that bedrest and trebutiline (to stop the contractions) would help me get to at least 35 weeks. Good luck to you!

I started dilating at 29 weeks. I was 2.5 & effacing as well. Doc put me on bedrest from 29-34 weeks. Everytime she checked me, baby A's head was so low she said if it were any lower Id have to be in labor. She even told me not to make anymore appointments after my 34 week mark because she didnt think i would make it.

well I showed her! I showed up for my INDUCTION (that I begged for of course) at 37 weeks. I was 5cm dilated & 100% effaced. I was NOT IN LABOR :)

Anything is possible!!!!!!! I did make quite a few trips to L&D though. I never hesitated and I think that played a huge part in my ability to carry the babies to term!

angie & E&Msmom - THANK YOU!! Those are the kind of stories that I want to hear. Make me feel a lot better. I would love to have to be induced at 37 weeks! I will keep praying for that!

keep thinking positive, i know you can do it girl! I've been 1cm dilated for about 3 weeks now, among other fun things and bedrest is the only reason my dr thinks these guys havent come yet. With my DD i managed to be 3 cm dilated to a few weeks before she actually showed up, so as pp said, anything can happen. You hit the 32 week mark, which is a good thing so you're getting there! :good:
