being that they are over 6 months, we should have started this along time ago but we didn't. We started testing the waters with rice cereal with a spoon. How many trys did it take yours to get used to it? Or did they take to it right away?

Mine took a couple of weeks to get the concept. They started to like the rice when we started putting a tbsp of carrots in it.

Mine took about a week to really get used to the spoon, and still had some up and down times after that. It does get better, easier, and less messy.

I think you're starting right on time! The AAP recommends waiting until 6 months. We started recently and it took them 1-2 weeks to really get the hang of it.

That's good to hear. Everyone I've talked to is so surprised that we didn't start months ago.

we started at 6 months as well, as per our pedi's recommendation. we started on fruits though, and introduced cereal last, after veggies and meats--which at the time i thought was WEIRD and even posted about it. anyhoo, they took about 3 days to stop making the "what IS THIS??" face and about a week to stop spitting out half. 2 weeks into it, they were loving it!

Our boys wouldn't eat the cereal at all and still won't. We had to go straight to vegetables. Took SEVERAL weeks to get them started, but now they eat like pros. I had to just try them with a few bites and then give them a break and try again later. They might not ever take the cereal, ours didn't. Since they are 6 months, though, you can start with vegetables. Good Luck

None of my boys liked the plain cereal. We tried each for a week & then started mixing fruit in it for b-fast everyday.

It was definitely an acquired skill for mine. We started at 6.5 months (4.5 months adjusted) with applesauce with rice cereal. Both of mine had cereal in their bottles due to reflux so I figured we'd be okay. It took about 2 weeks before they got proficient but N still spits a good bit out. I occassionally get the "what is THIS face?" and we haven't even tried the green veggies yet. Good luck! They'll get it.
