So my little ones have been given the go aheads for solids. I thought I tried puree bananas first. How did you get your little ones use to using a spoon instead of a bottle?

we started with cereal watered with formula. It was basically formula with a hint of cereal. It went well after a few days!

I did cereal for about 2 weeks first gradually making it thicker. I just added prunes to the cereal on Thurs.
Try holding the sppon to their lips and let them suck it off so they know its food. After a couple days mine were ok with the spoon, no more tongue thrusting. Now they open their mouths when they see the spoon coming (or close their mouths if they dont want anymore! haha)

Good luck and have fun!!

Believe it or not my twins (and my daughter when she was a baby) would only eat from one type of spoon! I had tried all different kinds and finally bought some multi colored ones (that we supposedly disposable) from Target and that's what they ate from the best. For my girls the spoons were like pacifiers...I had to try about 10 different kinds before finding the best!

Wow! Our doctor won't let us start solids till 6 months adjusted. She recommends starting with rice cereal for two weeks, oatmeal for two weeks and then introducing one vegetable a week. Is it possible they are too young to know how to eat from a spoon?

We started with rice cereal and followed the directions which makes for very "watered down" rice cereal. Just put it on the spoon and place toward the lips. The tongue thrust will ease up after a few days. We gradually made the cereal thicker until it was about the consistency of pureed bananas...that's when we started those and other fruits/veggies.

At that age I will be really surprised if they are ready for solids or to eat from a spoon. Most peds reccomend holding off on solids until six months. That's when we started and by that time they had figured out on their own that when the spoon came at them they open their mouths. They still spit things out for a while and it took several attempts for them to actually "eat" anything. At 3.5 months their digestive systems are still very immature and their main source of nutrients needs to be either breastmilk or formula. If you do decide to start solids I would start with rice cereal very watered down with breast milk or formula and gradually make it thicker and then move to fruits and veggies. Good Luck

We started with rice cereal at our 4 month real age. I made it a little thicker than milk. Mine did not like the rice cereal so my ped. suggested adding a tbsp of carrots or green beans or bananas. I only did one meal at 4 months old at around 4 pm when they were not fussy. Now at 5.5 months I give them "brunch" around 11am. If we miss a meal or two I do not worry b/c I know all they really need is breastmilk and formula. Like yesterday we did not do any meals at all b/c we were on the road all day and they were just fine.

Yea I thought they were to young too, the boys eat about 6-8 ozs of formula per feeding (every 3-4 hous) and the doctor thought it was time (they weigh almost 17 lbs each at 3 months) we've been feeding them cereal with formula in their bottle (aboout 1 tablespoon per 3 ozs) but was told we could try something of more substance and she said we could try a spoon and just curious how everyone else did it :)

Also Noah the bigger of the two...AKA the PIGGIE (as I told the doctor) stares at us as we eat now and opens his mouth when take bites. We were joking with him the other day and starting putting food near his mouth and he had a huge tantrum when we took it away ( and ended up feeding ALOT earlier so he could "eat with us)... hee hee
