My daughters are 5 months old (adjusted age of just shy of 4 months)and we're getting to the point where the doctors are wanting us to introduce solids but I don't start solids before 6 months even on my term babies. However once they girls hit 6 months in February they will still only be adjusted age of 4 months.

I'm not even sure we'll start solids before the girls can feed themselves table food but I'm just curious..

So I guess my question is, for those who's twins were preemies.. did you start solids based on actual age, adjusted age, or what?

We started based on actual age and our doctor's recommendation. They were about 4 1/2 months when we started giving them rice cereal. We fed it to them once a day, in the evening, for about a month. Then we started with vegetables about a week ago. They both seem to be ready and really like it. They get a small serving of cereal in the morning and a serving of veggie in the evening.

Its actually up to you. Don't let your pedi tell you what to do. Feeding is parent choice.if you want, then start offering them some rice cereal. If you don't, then don't. Do whatever you feel comfortable with and you think its best for them.

How s their milk intake? Do they drink good? When you introduce solid, watch out for milk intaking drops.and its recommended that you give then solid in the morning or midday. So if they have food reaction, they won't keep you up all night lol which it will happen some times. Good luck!

Oh I don't let the pedi tell me anything. LOL It just got me thinking about the actual vs adjusted thing.

We don't do rice cereal at all. Our first food is either avocado or sweet potato.

Their intake is good right now but we are still trying to get their tummy issues under control (another reason for not starting solids yet)but I will definitely keep in mind the trying in the morning or early afternoon incase of reaction. Thanks for the suggestion!

HI! My babies were born at 31 wks and they are 5 months now (so about 3 adjusted). The ped gave us the go ahead at their last appt, but I really haven't done much. My DS LOVES anything I give him pretty much, but then he won't finish his last bottle of the day. So I only do it when the mood hits me...maybe 2-3 times per week.

My DD however, is not ready. She does not enjoy it, so I am not even trying with her. I will wait a month or so before I try again with her.

I figure I will really hit it hard around 9 mos actual. Until then, it's just gonna be for fun. Solids are a pain in the butt anyway! LOL! I love it when they can start picking up little finger foods for themselves! So cute and fun.
