Carter does very well with the cereal and fruits we've tried, ashton is hit and miss, and the last week or so he won't eat anything at all as far as solids go. Should i keep offering him the solids everyday even tho he just gets mad after awhile? Or should i just keep feeding Carter solids and try Ashton off and on? Should I at least put cereal in Ashtons bottle so he's getting something? I tell you, this starting solids thing is just baffling me. the boys are only 4.5 months but i'd like to at least get them practicing eating with a spoon. Any suggestions to get ashton more interested in the solids?

    Thanks

I wouldn't push him. He is still really young. The earliest I ever started anything was 6mths.

I am guessing he is on formula - so, he needs nothing else @ this point. If you want to, you can keep occasionally trying.

I agree, they seem really young... my peds told me to start around 6 mo. (they are BF), but then I waited until almost 8 months and they did great at that point! I feed ours with a spoon, but don't let them feed themselves... my boy does try to grab it some thought, very cute. They just started this past month doing great at picking up 'o' hard cereal and other cooked cubed foods - like sweet potatoes.

again, for me, if they weren't interested I wouldn't push it, their main diet at this age is breastmilk or formula, the solids are just extra...

I wouldnt push him either and I would probably stop for a couple of weeks. You want it to be a positive experience, not stressful for either of you. I started at about 4 months with cereal only because we had issues with reflux and I did not do it every day and I did not feed them at the same time. It wasnt until about 5.5 months that they finally got the hang of it. GL!

The same thing happened with us. DD started the rice cereal and was totally into it. We had to wait for a little while b/c DS was sick. When he finally got better, he wasn't into it at all while DD was eating like crazy. Finally, we put a little banana baby food into the cereal and DS went for it. Keep exposing him to it, but don't force it and don't get frustrated. He'll come around! Good luck...it's so much fun to give them real food!

My twins are 6 months and I started them both on rice cereal but progressed to all cereals, fruits and veggies in about three weeks. One child eats like there is no tomorrow, whether a bottle has been given or not. The other will ONLY eat if she is very hungry (like first thing in the morning). I had given them as many as three meals but am pulling back as I am finding them a bit cranky (me too somedays). They are both spitters so the real food is coming up in a rainbow of colours. I like the advice to take it easy and let them decide. I've started feeding them separately anyway just to enjoy the experience with each one and let each one decide the speed/amount of food they will take. Of course, as a mom and a worrier, I am aware that I am worried that one child will be overweight from eating so much and the other will starve - NOT likely! Ha ha! Anyone else have twin spitters? Isn't it is the biggest pain!? At least they do it with a smile on their face - even with the thickened formula.

I agree with pp, they are still really young, so no need to push it right now. I would stop for a bit and try again in a week or so. GL!
