Starting Foods at 4 months

My b/g twins turned 4 months on November 18. Yesterday they had their 4 month checkup and everything is great. DD was 5 lbs .02 ozs at birth and she is now 15lbs 2 ozs. DS was 4lbs and 12 ozs at birth and he is now up to 13lbs 14ozs. I was not able to go yesterday to their appointment because of work obligations and I had a list of questions for my husband to ask the doctor and of course he doesn't ask all of them.

The doctor said that we can start offering them baby food now. They have been taking cereal for the past couple of weeks and they are doing great with that. My question is...I don't think I am going to start baby food until they are five months. They currently get cereal around 930 a.m. and their first bottle is close to 600 am. I guess my question is..when I do start offering baby food, do I take out the cereal and replace that with the baby food or do I offer cereral for breakfast and baby food for lunch or dinner. It has been six years since I have done this and I have no idea.

My step sister runs a licences in home daycare and she thinks that I should start them now and have her do it. If I do that, then that is another thing that she has done first or has seen first. I'm thinking of waiting until Christmas break when I get time off to introduce baby food (she makes me irriate most days by talking bad about my oldest DD but she is great with the babies and only charges us $200 a week for both babies compared to a center where it would be $300 a week).

I guess my only other concern is time when I do start to offer baby food. Most days I don't get home until 600 pm and I'm wondering how I will fit all of the feedings into my schedule.

    Sorry for rambling on.

You should ABSOLUTELY be the one to engage them in that milestone. Tell your sis to back off a bit.

I'm not sure about the rest because I'm not there yet.

I started with sweet potatoes each night when my hubby got home. He would come in the door and I would have them in the highchairs with bibs on, food in bowls and ready to go. He would feed one and I would feed the other. (He wanted to be a part of it)

Now I feed them 4x a day as per our PED. I do 3 feedings alone and my hubby still helps at night. On the weekends he usually does at least 1 feeding per day alone.

Start with 1 feeding as soon as you get home and as you add more meals you will obviously need your sister to do some feedings!

How many times a day are they getting cereal?

I started with fruit and cereal in the AM and veggies and cereal in the PM. Why not start on a weekend when you are not working and then she can do it after you've already started it. And in the evening, feed them when you get in, then they can have one bottle afterward before bed.

Currently the babies only get 1 bowl of cereal a day. My only concern about starting the evening meals is the time I can do it. Right now with their scheudle, they eat a bottle at five and the last bottle around 8 (on most days). I don't get home until 6 on most days and good days I get home about 5:30. My husband is a cop and and they switch between night and day shift every two weeks so most of the time he would be unable to help.
There current schedule is a bottle at 6:00 a.m., cereal at 9:30...another bottle anywhere between 12:00 and 2 and then 5:00 p.m. with their last bottle being at 8:00 p.m. I would love to be done all feedings by 7:00 p.m. but I'm not sure what kind of feeding schedule I should try to make that works. They are taking 7 ozs bottles at this time. I think maybe I'm stressing this way to much but its been a while and never having twins before is making this harder on me than I thought.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

You can keep the cereal and add a second meal of fruit or vegetables. That's what we do now. I give baby food in am and cereal in late afternoon or evening.
