I bought our first box of rice cereal tonight....though it might be a couple weeks or so before I decide to actually feed it to them.

I didn't know if I should get the rice cereal or oatmeal cereal, but I got rice, figuring I could start with that, and then go to oatmeal...does that sound like a good idea??

And when did you feed it to them (at what part of the day), at first? I know I should start with one feeding a day (or not even every day is necessary, I realize this)...but I was wondering if I could do it mid morning or midday/afternoon? I think it would be much easier to do it then than try and do it in the evening. But I'm not sure...does it really help babies to start sleeping better? Cause DS was STTN for about 2 months, and in the last week has started waking again around 4ishAM SCREAMING to eat, and then totally throwing the entire day's feeding schedule off because of it (which wouldn't be too bad if I didn't have another baby to try and keep on the same schedule!).

Also, I'm still debating on when to actually start them....I had wanted to wait until 6 months, but Evann is really seeming like he's getting ready, and totally watching food that people is eating. I've been holding him off, waiting for Hannah to seem more like she's ready to start too, to start them at the same time...but now I'm considering starting them around 5 months...and well, like I said, I bought the cereal already, so I don't know! *poll*

I started at 6 months for everyone. Evan seemed interested earlier, but it wasn't needed.

We started just after four months per our pediatricians recommendation. We started with rice cereal 1tbsp once/day after their morning nap. We did that for a week then we did oat cereal and then barley. I still haven't done wheat and I haven't really increased the amount I give them each day. I tried a few veggies as well, carrots, sweet potatoe and butternut squash. We see our pedi again on Monday and I will ask him about increasing the amount as my girls are taking over 35oz of formula/day! If you aren't comfortable starting before six months then don't rush it, there is no harm done in waiting till they are six months to start. Good luck!

6 months. DS wasn't very interested in solids at all until 7.5 months though.

We started at 4 months on our pediatrician's advice. She recommended that we start with rice cereal. We choose to start the cereal at the time of the day they were at their happiest, which is usually when they wake up. We started with a couple of tablespoons and gradually worked up to a decent amount. Good luck!

We started about 4 months but we had been putting cereal in their bottles for reflux for a long time. It was closer to 5 months before they became consistent eaters. Before that, I didnt do it everyday. Once they got the hang of it, we did it as an evening meal.

we haven't started yet, but will be later this month (i was going to start them right at 6 months but we're going on a ski trip on the 18th so i figured why make things more complicated than they need to be and decided to wait till we got back). anyway, we're going to start with rice cereal & also in the morning as the girls are at their best then. GL, whatever you decide. :)

We started about a week before they turned 6 months old. I was going to wait, but my DS lunged at his cousin's food one day & so I thought that he was probably ready. And they both were! We started with rice cereal at night (around 6pm). We added a 2nd meal in the morning about 2 or 3 weeks later. We did rice, then oatmeal, then barley, and moved onto veggies & fruits. Some days they love it & some days not so much. And when they're sick (they've been sick pretty much all week), we usually only give solids if they seem really, really interested. Good luck to you!
