So, my last post about our adventures to baby #3 was a sad rant. I've since talked to my Ob/Gyn and he recommended I go to a specialist rather than trying in office. (I agreed.) Well, right about the time we were planning on making an appt, DH got a promotion that moved him an hour and a half away 4 nights a week. I thought we'd have to table our TTC plans. But after much discussion and a few tears, we decided to go ahead and get the ball rolling.

I have an appt this coming Friday (April 12) at a fertility clinic in Baton Rouge. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. It's new doctors and I'm just wondering if the experience will be as awesome as it was last time for me. (Was in Memphis for the last IVF and that clinic was amazing and I just loved everyone there.)

We are currently not telling anyone. Last time, family and close friends knew what was going on. But that was with my XH. DH's family, while I love them so much, tends to be very vocal about their opinions and I just don't feel like hearing it. And neither does he. It's a big secret to keep though especially when I'm sure we'll need help from time to time with the twins. As it is SIL will pick them up from school on Friday because our appt is at 2pm and they get out at 3pm. She and BIL are not grouped into the overly-opinionated sector of the ILs, and since DH and his brother are very close, we might end up telling them.

Anyway, all this rambling to really say that we have our first (consultation) appt in just a few days and I'm nervous. I hope we can get the ball rolling quickly and things don't drag out.

    Will update!

Best of luck!!! I'm sure the new clinic will be great! Definitely keep us posted!

We too were secret about our second attempt(with Annabella), but we wanted to surprise the family. We had a cousin watch the boys for us. And naturally...my mom works at the hospital where we went, and someone recognized me. Oops!

Thanks y'all! I'll be posting here with updates as they happen. This will be the only place I vent or talk about it, so I'll apologize in advance for rambling later! LOL

Aimee, we will have to get together! We are planning on moving around the first of June if our house here sells before then. (Fingers crossed!) We're looking to move in the Zachary or Denham Springs areas because we've heard the schools are really good. But we'll also just have to wait and see what happens with finding a place to rent for the next year. (We'll only be BR area for a year before he gets he's next promotion.)

    Good Luck!!! :grouphug:

Can I live through your experiences? DH and I cant do IVF again and I loooooong to have more kiddos. So far- nothing happening the old fashioned way (and unlikely).

    So cheer everyone else on!!!!

We did a FET ( in secret too!!) and it was so hard to not tell!

I hope the new clinic rocks!!!

I guess things are starting a little in the wrong foot. I'm trying not to get in my head but its hard.

Found out that my SFIL, who we are closer to than FIL, is being put on "comfort only" hospice care Thursday night when the 4 sons between him & MIL can get there. They don't expect him to make it thru the night but a day or so at most. They don't want any of the grand kids there and will have a memorial this summer, so as of right now none of the SILs are going.

I don't know if I should keep my appt Friday even though Chris can't make it or just cancel. It seems selfish to keep it, but then again if I'm not going to Houston anyway, why not? Rescheduling could mean we don't in for another few weeks.

    Not sure what to do.

Keep the appt. you both want this. It's not selfish.

I agree with Rachael, keep the appointment!

I am very close to Denham, I live in Southeast BTR, but my kids go to school downtown. So that area is closer to Zachary.

GL tomorrow, I hope you keep it, and I am sorry about your SFIL.

After talking to Chris about things, we've decided that I will keep the appt. Especially since it's an initial visit, I don't think he'll miss too much.

    Will update after! :)

Good luck! My initial visits have been them outlining all the tests so your DH missing is ok as long as he listens when you tell him what to do. Good luck tomorrow!

Well, today was certainly bittersweet. My FIL passed last night around 9pm. It was peaceful and MIL and 2 of the sons, including DH were with him.

And then today was my appt. I'm so glad I went! I really loved to doctor and the staff I met. They welcomed me to the clinic and were just very warm.

The doctor was extremely optimistic for us and basically we can decide if we want to go straight to IVF or try IUI first, since we did get pregnant the one time 2 years ago. (It was a miscarriage.)

The plan now is to wait until April 26 and take a pregnancy test since that will be day 30 on my cycle. He'll give me provera to start a period and then I'll go in on day 3 to get my baseline u/s and blood work. And then we start!

I'm so excited! I've really been on the fence about this but after the visit today, it just feels right.

I'm ready for Chris to get home so we can look at everything and get started on the financing part.

    Just a little update:

DH had his sperm analysis today, so hopefully we'll get the results of that tomorrow. Or soon anyway.
We decided to do IVF, because while its more money, we would rather up our odds rather than possibly spending the money on failed IUIs and ending up doing it anyway.
I'm getting really excited about things! I just hope I'm not getting my hopes up too high. Just because I had success the first attempt last time does not mean it will be the same this time.

I'm supposed to call tomorrow and get my provera and take that for 5 days then go in on day 3 for my baseline ultrasound and blood work. I'm going to call for the script, but will wait a day or so before taking it because we are flying out next Friday for my FIL's memorial and there could be scheduling issues.

    Will update more soon hopefully!

So, I took Provera twice a day for 5 days to bring on a period so we could do the baseline u/s and b/w. It's now been 8 days since I took my last pill and still no period. I had some spotting Thursday, but barely. And then a little last night. I've had cramps and my boobs hurt. So I keep thinking it's coming, but it just hasn't. So frustrating! Darn thing comes when you don't want it and doesn't when you do! :aggressive:

My plan is to call the clinic Monday and see what they want me to do. I'm guessing I'll take something else and wait for another period. I don't get it because Provera has worked in the past.

We did get Chris's results back and his got lots of good swimmers, so that's a relief. Doc actually said he'd feel good about trying a cycle of IUI if we wanted, but we've decided to stick with IVF because it increases our chances so much. I don't want to spend $3k and then have to turn around and do IVF anyway.

But for now I'm just wishing for a freakin' period!

My period finally did start, so went in for all the baseline testing. Everything came back great except my thyroid. I've never had an issue with it before, so not sure what to expect. Having more blood work done on Tuesday. I'm also doing the mock transfer on Tuesday. Already on birth control pills. Should start injections around June 10.

    Away we go!

And as a note, I've been hit with the panic bug. Are we doing the right thing? Can I emotionally handle another baby? What if something happens? Blah blah blah. I'm trying to ignore all the what ifs, but for me that always hard.

GL! And you'll do fine with 3 kids. Going from 2 to 3 was a breeze compared to going from 0 to 2. How exciting, best wishes!

 Gina, you can do this with 3 kids!
I just wanted to speak on the thyroid. Despite having PCOS and irregular periods, my thyroid work up always came back clean (the few times it was tested)...until after I had the kids, when it came back bad. I do take synthroid now and I see an endocrinologist every 6 months for blood workup and a medicine check. I also have to keep track of my periods for my endo because he would like me to get them every 3 months at least. Keep us posted on how you are doing! Good luck!

My med order went in yesterday. Last time I used Freedom Pharmacy. This time I'm using a different one. (I think MDF? Might have that wrong.) At any rate, I'm using Follistim instead of Gonal-F. This clinic uses Gonal-F for IUIs and Follistim for IVF, to share the wealth I guess. I'm a little nervous about the med change just because I know Gonal-F worked last time. But I know that Follistim is basically the same thing anyway, so it'll be fine.

I'm mostly worried about the costs!! I'm supposed to get a break down of everything today after they run as much through my insurance as they can. The rep that I talked to said that sometimes they can insurance to cover Lupron and the PIO, so fingers crossed that maybe the only thing we'll have to fork up is for the Follistim. (But I know that's not likely with my craptastic insurance.) Hey, I know they'll cover the antibiotics! There's $4! LOL

I start Lupron June 5 probably. That's the target date right now anyway.

The meds will be here tomorrow and I start Lupron next week!

The meds ended up being much less than I was expecting. After talking to a few people at the clinic and the thread here, I was expecting it to double since last time. But it ended up only being just under $2k.

We've signed all our consent paperwork. So it's for real now! I go next Wednesday for bloodwork and will start Lupron. Go off birth control on 6/8. Have a period and then start Follistim and Menupur.

    Excited and nervous!

Well, I went for b/w and u/s today to start Lupron tonight.

I'm just irritated because I found out today that they want to do ICIS. I don't have a problem with them doing it, but we didn't add that into our financing because I seriously don't remember it ever coming up before. So we had to pay $1775 today unexpectedly. We are also in the process of moving, so it was really frustrating.

I do like the new clinic, but I do feel like there isn't as much communication. I think if I hadn't done it all before I'd be lost.

So that's my little rant. Apparently we're doing ICIS. Not a bad thing at all, in fact I think it will help. Just wish we had talked about it.

Do you mean ICSI (Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection)? I thought they were doing that with every IVF attempt to increase the chances of success - at least that's what our RE explained 3 years ago. Sorry you didn't see that coming but on the bright side, it will improve your chances. Good luck!!!

ETA: I just realized it was 4 years ago, not 3 :)
