started cereal- now not sleeping through the night

I started my 4 month olds on cereal last week, about 1 tbs at dinner time 5:30 pm, they love it but now they are awaking up at night wanting formula? They go to bed around 6:30/7 and then awake at around midnight looking for something. Prior to cereal they would have their 6 oz of forumla and would sleep through the nigth until about 5:30 or 6 am. Any thoughts?

 

Could it be possible that they have a tummy ache from the introduction of food? My boys got gas really bad when we started food.

 

I was going to suggest tummy ache too. Did your pedi recommend starting now? Maybe a call to them to see if you should do an a.m. feeding instead would work.

 

I heard starting in the am is better.

 

we started to feed mine cereal at 6 months. my doc said don't feed them anything new after 2pm unless i want to stay up at night. sounds like a tummy ache to me too. try to give them some in the am instead. i think that will help alot. good luck..i would also mention this to your doc.

If you are set on evening cereal, could you possible adjust feedings so that they are eating later? I would stay up to give my boys their last bottle at 10:30 or 11 pm until they were about 4 months old.

 

Could also be a coincidence. Four months is peak time for increased night wakings, as they become more aware of the world around them. Lots of babies who STTN early wake up again and need to be "retrained" around 4 to 6 months.
