Maddox was horsing around in our living room and fell backwards into a corner of the wall. I was watching and the crack was soo loud I knew it was bad. Dh came running after he saw me run at the speed of light. He took a minute to catch his breath and scream. Anyway then the blood started to gush and off we went to the er. I'm soo furious a the hospital we went to it was nightmare. It was 5 hours before they closed him up! They were busy which I know is beyond there control but they were taking adults with muscle sprains or fevers before him. Then we get to the room and hes' sharing it with a druggy yelling and moaning for a new doctor because this one won't give her drugs. The trash cans were overflowing the countertops were covered with tissues, papertowels and alcohol swab remainders. Then when it came time to clean him up he was being soo good. He just layed on his tummy UNTIL they jabbed a needle in 3 times without any numbing cream and IMMEDIATELY stapled him. There was no time for him to be numb. It happened so fast I had no time to stop them. I felt so bad and so guilty for taking him there. I went online before we left to see what hospitals were in network but the ppo site was down. Now I've found out thru friends that the hospital is notorious for being a dump. I just wish I could turn back time. He's been in pain and waking up when his meds wear off at night and today started running a fever. I'm so hoping its just a bug and not a wound infection

    Hope he is feeling better.

Just as an FYI, in addition to checking which hospitals are in your network, it is also worth checking to see if any have a Pediatric ER.

they didnt even shave his head to make sure no hair got in to the wound as it closed up? Maybe you should have taken pictures of the operatory to show OSHA, LOL. sorry you had such a horrid experience.

Oh Jess!! :hug99: What a nightmare. ALL OF IT!!! I'm sorry to hear you were in such a dump and it was all so chaotic!! How awful!!!

I remember your post or email about him when he was like 10 mos. old and on top of the kitchen table! You predicted that he'd been the ER baby and I am SORRY that this is fulfilling itself!! :hug99: Poor little man.

Did it upset Burkley to see that happen?

    Glad he is okay.
I was also suprised they did not have to shave the area around the wound before the staples. Luckly my girls have never needed stiches of any kind. Knocking on wood now.

    OUCH!!!
My boys have had staples many times and they have never shaved their hair - they say that staples are better for head injuries - I don't know why. My boys have all done fine with them - and we have never been numb when they staple - they always say that staples are so quick - but it seems so awful!! I am sorry he had to go through that! I wonder if he picked up a bug from having to wait 5 hours in the ER - poor boy! they really should take kids that need sewing up back before adults with sprains!

Burkely didn't give a hoot that he was hurt. She was absolutely hysterical that I left without her however. After about a half hour she realized she had daddy all to herself and was thrilled lol!
Yup I did predict he was going to be the one going to the ER. Zander had gotten stapled, glued and sewn 3x so I guess its a boys club lol!

When they stapled Zan they never shaved hair. I would think that shaving could catch the wound? He still had a fever yesterday but the wound looks ok. Its hard to tell with the clump of hair underneath though. We'll see how he is when he wakes up this morning.

Thanks for the kind words everyone :)
