Standing up is ruining our sleep!

Okay, my first DD we fed in the night until goodness knows how old she was. Then the twins came along. At 12 weeks we put a little rice in their bottles, and magically, they slept through the night. No peeps until morning. Then rotovirus hit our house at 4 months, and we have backtracked ever since. It has been colds and more stomach flu, teething, separation anxiety (I think) and now standing up in the crib.

They both go down for bed fine. But, we do binkie rescues and now 'lay the baby back down' trips several times a night! My daughter gets so wigged out crying that she 'hiccups' for eternity, and each time that happens, she cries some more because it startles her. They used to not wake each other up, but now they do. So, we are relunctant to CIO with her when she is really worked up.

My son seems like something is just bothering him. I've tried to give tylenol/motrin before bed...and he gets up. I've tried giving another dose when he gets up at 2am, but that doesn't help either. If I bring him back to my bed...he goes right back to sleep. I was thinking maybe that is a separation thing. Now that he has figured out how to stand...that is what he does. UGHH. He really just roots around from 2-3 until 6am when we get up. He is in an orthotic helmet, so I wonder everynight if that thing is just too uncomfortable. I also wonder about a wet diaper, is that just bothering him now. I wonder if he is hungry and needs more food. He gets 2.5 jars of baby food, 1/2 cup or so of cereal, and 20oz of formula a day. WHO KNOWS!

Okay, enough random venting. Any ideas?

NO advice...our sleep has been terrible too. They sleep until 4-5 consistently, but it's hit or miss on weather I can get them back to sleep after a quick feed....90% of the time they are up for the day....ugh...hopefully it's just a 10 month stage?

How long have they been standing in the crib? Just a couple days?

Lily started standing in her crib maybe 2 weeks ago. Those first couple nights if she awoke, she stood up and then cried because she was in the dark and couldn't figure out how to get down. But that was a really short phase and now we only find her standing in the morning when she is ready to get out of bed. Maybe it's because she figured out how to get down now, I don't know...

He figured out how about a week ago. He was waking up though before he learned to stand, so I am just not sure what is bothering him. He doesn't always stay standing, and he knows how to get back down. He just moans and groans, and if we get him to go back to sleep...it is very short-lived.

I mean, it is a joke to say our kids sleep through the night. We don't feed them, but we do everything else under the sun and I am tired!!

Has anyone read up on separation anxiety? What does that do?

A couple things crossed my mind when I read this:

    * Could be teething. My ds was like this a LOT when he was teething.

    * With all the colds, maybe she has an ear infection? I read that sometimes when babies have ear infections, they don't like to lie down I think it puts extra pressure on the eardrum or something. A lot of times earaches don't really have symptoms other than fussiness.

Zoe isn't standing yet, but Johnny has been doing just like you described. He's also got a cold, and just this last night started to do a little better & I think he might be feeling better from his cold. The other night I was about to pull my hair out & dh said, "take a break" and he tried his hand at putting him to sleep.....he came back in 5 min, no crying from the nursery. I said, "What did you do???" He swaddled him again! I never would've thought of it, but it seemed to do the trick.

Well, I guess I am going the teething route. I gave teething tablets and tylenol for 'dessert' tonight, and if anyone wakes up...they are getting some motrin. I hate to pump them full of meds...but something has to be going on that I can figure out, right?

Update: Well, Ainsley was up at 4am playing, then started to get fussy, so I race in there. Guess who was standing up? I put him down and he made it to 6. Pretty typical I guess.

[IMG] I am laughing because DH started doing a type of swaddle on our guys two weeks ago because they are moving around too much and losing their covers at night, waking up cauz they are cold.

I say, if it works, do it! [IMG]
