DS really wants to practice standing (he isn't pulling up on his own), but he is trying to support his entire ~25-lb body on his toes!

Is there a way to encourage him to keep his heels down or will he outgrow this as he gets better at standing?

One of my DD's did this as well and I was actually a tad bit concerned about it. However, the other TS moms reassured me that it was normal and she would grow out of it. Once she started walking all the time she stopped doing it.

i read somewhere that most babies learn to stand/walk on their tip toes - it's a developmental thing to begin walking on their entire foot. and then eventually, it's another milestone when they learn to walk with a heel to toe motion. my girls are both big tip toers - i wouldn't worry.

Thanks for the responses! I guess it just looks so awful because he is around 25 pounds...lots of pudge that he is trying to balance on his tip-toes :)

if it helps at all, ballet dancers put all of their weight on their tip toes & that's gotta be more than 25 lbs. ;)

We keep teasing him that it's time for his ballet lesson each time we help him to his feet! And have you ever seen the Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze skit on SNL where they spoof the Chippendale dancers? My son resembles Chris Farley in a leotard :)

Totally normal at this age. He will learn to put them down as he learns to walk.

My baby brother used to walk on the TOPS of his toes (curled them underneath). It was really disturbing to watch. And yes, he did outgrow it.
