DS started to refuse to sit in the bath about 2 weeks ago. However, I managed to get him to sit down eventually with distraction and toys. They are staying at MIL´s for 2 weeks and she doesn´t let me bath my LOs so she is allowing DS to have his bath standing up otherwise he cries a lot. I dont like this idea much as I prefer him to sit as Im afraid he´ll slip therefore his baths last about 2 minutes with MIL. How can I go about getting her to get him to sit down? Apparently toys haven´t worked but I think she´s just too nervous to try & he must sense that.

He used to love bathtime and nothing has happened that could have changed it. I think he is just in a phase and prefers to stand. He also hates having his hair washed as we have to tip him back. Again, I have more success with that but not MIL. Any tips on how to get him to sit? Im afraid he´s going to get used to standing as she allows it then I will have a battle on my hands when we get back home. :(

    TIA!

:) We have one of these threads every other week it seems! What is it with kids and standing in the tub?

Anyway, this is one battle I choose to not fight. I allow my two to stand up in the tub, it makes bathing them easier and they're happier (which is nice because they really don't like baths still). I just got a big tub mat and a spout cover so if they do fall, there will be minimal damage. After a few weeks the novelty wore off and they started sitting again.

My two love to stand in the tub and like Becky, this is not a battle that DH and I choose to fight-we let them stand. We have bathtime books that they will stand and look at while we wash them and we also keep toys in the tub to keep them occupied.

Same here. I have a non slip cover in the bottom of the tub and I just let them.

I couldnt find the other threads on this, sorry to bother you.

OK thanks everyone for your advice. I´ve read various theories to this and wondered that´s all.

    edited for typos

We have those sticky things on bottom of tub for slipping BUT I tell them to sit down and they do it.

I'm TERRIFIED of bath accidents.. like paranoid out of my mind. I have no idea why but it TERRIFIES me to even see this heading. I'm weird!

I just keep battling with mine, pulling them back down everytime they stand up. I think I'm on the losing side of the battle though because it's a never-ending thing!

i'm glad you posted this & for all the replies - it never occured to me before to just let them stand. what a brilliant idea! and i expect with our new bathtime "policy" we're all going to have a lot more fun in the tub. thanks guys. :D

I have a non-slip bath mat, but I still make them sit while in the bath. IMO and for my sanity, its too dangerous having them both standing in there. If they stand, they go to time out (I take them out of the bath and sit them on the bath mat next to me. Since they love their baths, this nips it in the bud usually.

However this seems like more of an issue with your MIL. Can your DH talk to her about the dangers of letting him stand? Can you get him some 'new bath toys' (like your MILs measuring cups or some plastic bowls?).

    GL and

Oh and don't worry about posting this topic again :) The search feature isn't working now because of the change over to the new system. I think Bex was just pointing out how common it is, not that its a pain to read another post about it.

I use to battle with mine all the time about sitting down. Until I read on here that others don't fight it and that we stand in the tub with no problems. I thought...so true! Now, are bathtimes are much more peaceful.

LOL I was the one who started the other thread. It must be the age. Mine are just shy of 14 months. After reading the advice I got here, I took the bath seats out, put down a big tub mat and fill the tub with 4 inches of water. I also have a spout cover. They both stand most of the time. It's chaos but baths are quick now. First thing I wash their hair so that's done before they decide it's time to get out. I just use a small cup and a wash cloth over their forehead while they are standing. The gals suggested the extra long tub mat from One Step Ahead. I just got mine yesterday and it's great. Even though the bottom of my tub is textured, it still sticks. The only bath accident we've had is when they lose their balance and land on their tush. If they land on a toy or the drain cover, they get upset. So I pull the mat down over the drain cover and try to keep softer toys in there.

I'm another one that doesn't make mine sit in the tub. Mine are allowed to stand but they mostly kneel these days, oh and trying to swim/float :shok:

True. I totally wasn't trying to be rude. I'm sorry if I came across that way because that was not my intention.
