So what do you do when a baby would rather stand than sleep? My bub has been pulling up to standing for weeks but this week decided to do this over and over agin during nap time. I have been lying him back down and saying it's time to go to sleep. He will stand again and again so i usually resort to patting his bum too as it is one only thing that keeps him down. I used to be able to put him in the crib with his soother and he would go to sleep in his own which would allow me to help his brother who struggles to go to sleep. Now this guy can take 20 minutes before he goes down. I have tried leaving him to see if he will lie down when he is tired (he does know how to get down) but he just wails and needs help getting down and settling. What have others done in this situation? How do you avoid it becoming a pattern or game?

    TIA,

    Amy

We had a similar problem with DD. she got really good at standing but NOT getting down. so for a while we ended up going in to rescue her and then soothing her to sleep which taught her stand, holler for mom and she will come.. so much fun!

As soon as she knew how to get down we went cold turkey. The first few days she was really mad and cried. I absolutely did not go in. Then she laid down and went to sleep. Now she often stands up as i leave the room but doesn't cry and as soon as i am out of sight she lays down and goes to sleep. I found she gets more revved up if i try to lay her down again.

She is a little live wire and often resist being laid down. I don't fight with her. If is wiggling and doesn't want to be laid down then i sit her in the crib, hand her her lovey and say good night.

I remember someone saying their LO wanted to stand. They found what worked best was to put him into the crib standing and say good night and leave.

The first few night are rough but they will learn to lay down on their own and go to sleep.
