Stairs!

At what age did you teach your twins to go down stairs?

How do you teach them to go down? (without sliding on your bottom!)

My little ones are a little over 11 months and one has mastered crawling up (the other one, almost has it mastered). The one who has mastered crawling up is getting curious on crawling down. I can't figure out how to show her how to go down (but I didn't show her how to go up either!).

 

My guys have been going up the stairs for some time, but we're just now starting to let them go down. We're teaching them to go down the same way we taught them how to get off the couch; backwards! They basically have to turn around at the top of the stairs, and crawl down in reverse.

 

Mine do it the same way as Valerie and it was pretty close to 18 months when they finally got the hang of it. They will still miss a stair at the bottom every now and then but they catch on pretty quick.

 

We taught them the same was described by PPs. My DD quickly learned how to go down backwards. She's really fast now and has good coordination. DS can do it pretty well, but he's much slower than DD.

 

Mine learned how to go down backwards first. Then DH and I would hold their hands and walk with them when they started going down frontwards. I would say that they got pretty good at it between 18-20 months.
