    Hi ladies,

How long did your stair climbing restriction last? I am only allowed to go up/down once a day for the first few weeks and am wondering how that compares to others guidelines. Really glad Dh works at home or this would be really hard to manage!

    I'm BAD about following restrictions...lol!!

I had a c/s both times. With the twins, I followed that rule...would get ready adn come down in the morning, head to the NICU and back up to go to bed at night. THey were in the NICU for 17 days, so this wasn'ta problem.

I didn't follow that rule this time...although I was told to limit stairs to once a day. I came home from the hospital with a newborn and twins who are almost 3 years old. I needed to put them down for naps, give them baths, etc...so I probably did stairs 2-3 times a day (at least) after about a week. But, I can also say, my recovery was MUCH slower this time around b/c I was definitely overdoing it!

I didnt have any restrictions. That being said, I didn't really feel like going up and down stairs at all for about a week and then I did a couple of times a day.

(I should mention, though, that my wound had already come apart in the hospital -- I was on lovenox and developed a hematoma. Maybe that is why my doc didn't give me any restrictions (and I specifically asked about the stairs). I guess I couldn't do much more damage...)

I would say if you can - stay away from stairs atleast 4 weeks - it normally takes 2 weeks for the outside of the cut to close but the inside takes a lot longer. I thought my cut was closed by the 3rd week and I made the mistake of moving something (not heavy) but the movement itself and the side of my cut (c-section cut) opened and started bleeding a bit. It's not fun. So if you can avoid it - try. If you need to go up and down the stairs then try to minimize it to once a day. Good Luck!

I was told no stairs at all for two weeks and then limit trips up/down stairs to once a day for the following two weeks. I didn't even come close to obeying those guidelines. I live on the side of the mountain and there's a full flight of stairs between my garage and the rest of my house. Then we have seven sets of stairs (full or partial) inside, so there was no way I could avoid stairs.

I just tried to limit walking up and down and took them real slow. I healed quickly and with no problems, so I guess the stairs didn't hurt!

I didn't follow the rule either. I have a driveunder garage/basement, so that's a full flight of stairs just to get into my house. Then the bathrooms and bedrooms are upstairs on the top floor, and the kitchen and living areas are on the middle floor. I did wait about a week before I started carrying laundry baskets up and down the stairs though.

ummm....didn't follow that rule. I was really bad actually...we moved a month after my c-section and I did WAY more packing, lifting, and unpacking that I should have. If I could do it again I would have rested more and done less.

I didn't get a stair restriction (I live in a three story!!) I also drove after three days... :pardon: You really should do what you are comfortable with and listen to your body!

I'm also bad at following restrictions, but since my bedroom and bathroom are on the second floor- I was climbing stairs several times a day. I just did them slowly and didn't carry anything heavy up them for the first week. Good luck!

I wasn't told any kind of stair restriction. Just was told not to lift anything heavier than the baby. And believe me, I had no interest in the lifting or the stairs, so it was easy to follow.

I have to agree with PP, I didn't really follow the stair restictions. The first thing I did when i got home from the hospital was walk up the stairs to my bedroom. It didn't really bother me to walk up the stairs. The thing that really bothered me was laying down and getting in a comfy position to sleep. Good thing my twins were here to help with that. ;)

After my c-section they just said to take the stairs slowly. Our place is 3 stories so there was no way I could avoid the stairs. I did take them slowly but used them often and never had problems. Congrats on your babies!

Congratulations on your babies! I was bad about following the stair restriction as well. There was no way I could avoid them since our bedroom and bathroom are upstairs. It was one of those times I wish we had a rancher!

My bedroom is upstairs, so I just took it slow and easy and just went by the way I felt. I felt pretty good after a week, stopped my pain medication and started driving. Stairs I did right away, just very slow and easy.
