Does anybody know the difference between stage one and stage two Gerber baby food? Stage two was on sale today 2/.88, so I bought a bunch of things for the boys to try when they are ready. I carefully compared the labels and ingredients and the only difference I saw was the amount, and since the stage 2 had more bang for the buck, and I'm feeding two kids, I bought them! Of course I didn't sample them, but they looked to be about the same color and consistency. Does anybody know any reasons why they can't start on stage 2 food?

I never bought stage ones. I did the stage two single ingredients and then added the blends of one thing they'd had with a new thing. Like once they'd had sweet potatoes, I added sweet potatoes and corn.

Stage 2 is a bigger container and often a mix of ingredients. I don't know the age of your babies but for instance if they have had stage 1 bananas and done fine, then stage 2 bananas is fine.

Well, I did some research online. From what I could tell Stage 1 foods are for babies under 6 months, Stage 2 foods are for babies over 6 months. Stage 2 foods tend to have blends of different foods, Stage 1 are only single ingredient. That's about it.

I have only given my girls Stage 2 as well. I looked at the label and it says, for example with peas, that there is only peas and water in it. So I figured it was fine. They have only eaten the peas and squash so far. But I agree, since we are feeding 2 babies it's cheaper to get the bigger jars.

I think the main differences are the size (2.5 oz vs. 3.5) and the fact that ALL stage one foods are single ingredient foods. Stage 2 does a lot of mixing (garden vegetables, banana apple strawberry, squash and corn etc.) The one good thing about stage 1 is that it gives you an opportunity to see if they react or have an allergy to any of the foods before you go and give them mixed ingredients.

Like previous posts I never gave stage 1. I used the stage 2 single ingredient foods first. We asked our pedi about it when we were ready to switch to food and he was all for it, the size is the only difference for the single ingredient jars.

I do know the consistency between 2 and 3 is pretty different (Earth Best at least) so I wonder whether it's the same between 1 and 2, but with my oldest I've never noticed a major difference. I was also thinking of buying the stage 2 for the twins when they're ready, much cheaper

I also only gave my babies stage 2. I skipped stage 1 because my sons ate a lot. Now they are on stage 3.

I pretty much started with stage 2 as well. I did some stage 1 so I could make sure they weren't allergic to things, but stage 2 is cheaper and otherwise pretty much the same.
