When we fell behind in October, I was lucky that they only woke up early that morning. On Sunday, March 8th we go to DST and I was wondering how you handle it. For Josh, I would love for him to wake at 7:00 (he usually gets up at 6:00) but Jake has really been sleeping in until 8:00 and I do not want him sleeping until 9:00. Lately, Jake really needs his sleep and if I were to wake him when Josh gets up, I would have one very cranky boy on my hands. They go down for their nap at 11:30 which for Jake is only 3 1/2 hours after he wakes (5 1/2 hours for Josh) and usually sleep for 2-3 hours.

    How do you handle DST?

    Thanks

I think you will be surprised how quickly they go back to their old times. Josh will probably start going back to 6 and Jake will most likely sleep til 8 anyway, if he always did. I would just weather the first couple days and you can always wake Jake so that he does not sleep too late.

I've never made any adjustments to my kids schedules for daylight savings time changes. They have always adapted right away.

I've never done anything to adjust for time changes, other than to be aware that our schedule will be off and they might be out of sorts for a couple of days. They're in daycare and that runs on clock time, so they usually adjust very quickly, but on the Sunday of the actual change, we're usually an hour ahead of or behind schedule.

I'm another one who has never adjusted my kids' schedule for DST in the spring or fall. They always seem to fall in place on their own.

I agree I never do anything about DST and within a day or two they are back to their old schedule.

I don't want my kids to revert to their old schedule!!! I've been waiting all winter for this day to come around so they can go to sleep at 7:30 and wake up at 6:00 instead of our 6:30-5:00 schedule that we are on now (oh, and when I just tried independantly to move their bedtime later....they just kept on waking up as early and crabby as all heck because they didn't get their full night's sleep). So how do I trick them :) Just kidding. I'm just hoping I can get to some happy middle ground.

    I am dreading DST!
I have tried for MONTHS to get my girls to get to bed later, they go to bed between 615-630 and have just NOW within the last week or two been sleeping until 6-7am.
If they go to bed even 15mins late they are up at 4am and do not go back to sleep. Until just recently I had been dealing with 4am wakeups, it sucks! DST is going to revert my good sleepers back into crazy ladies! ugh.

I don't do anything for the time changes either. They've always only slept in or woke up earlier the first day and after that they went back to their regualar times. :good:

I usually do not do anything and our schedule seems to shift about half an hour for the first week or two. They now go to bes at 7:30pm and wake at 7:15am. I am looking forward to the 8 or 8:30am wake up that may result from DST. Also, we currently feed the kids around 6pm and then we eat after they go to bed. This leaves DH and I eating around 8pm. I have been promising myself that DST would mark the beginning of us eating together as a family. This would allow for the later bedtime that will result from DST without leaving DH and I eating at 8:30 or 9. I just did not realize DST was approaching so quickly. I guess I had better start planning meals fairly quickly!
Anyway, in my opinion, Spring forward is much better than fall back!

we go with the flow. You'd be surprised how quick they figure it out! I remember stressing like crazy about this when they were infants but realized it doesn't really make that big of a difference. the first day or so is weird and then it's back to normal!
