has anyone tried introducing it for them to use yet? Are you helping them use it or just having them hold it while you feed them. My guys are picking up finger foods and occasionally grab for the spoon but not sure if they would really try using it yet.

Ds grabs it away from me when I am feeding him, it is kind of funny. So now I have learned to bring over an extra spoon and give him it when he is grabbing (otherwise he cries). He won't feed himself, he just likes to hold it. Only thing is though, I have to watch him to make sure he doesn't put it in his mouth and gag.

I just started trying it with my 2 and they are 16 months now. They try!

I haven't even tried yet. My girls have no interest.

I give them their own spoon to hold during a feeding....keeps their little grabby fingers away from the one I am using...usually. They both have been sticking it in their mouth after I spoon in food! Somethimes I have to gently move their hand and spoon away from their face as I try to get my spoon in there...but most of the time they are ready for me and banging it on the tray.

This happened to us. One night when DH was feeding the girls he let Meara (who loves to grab the spoon) have her own. She promptly put it in her mouth and down her throat! He later said "Guess I should have thought that thru a little more." Yup. But if they seem like they are ready, give it a try :)

I don't think my 2 started using a spoon till around 14/15 mos. And at first, they just liked to hold it. Pretty soon, though, they got the hang of it & now they can eat a whole bowl of oatmeal by themselves! Only thing is now, they love having spoons/forks so much they'll refuse to eat unless they have one!
