I just started giving solids (rice cereal) to my boys a few days ago. So far, I just mix up one dish of cereal with breastmilk. Then I sit both boys infront of me in their high chairs, and I use one spoon, but give one bite to AJ, one bite to Ben, one bite to AJ, one bite to Ben, etc, until the bowl is empty. I figured it was no big deal for them to share a dish/spoon at this point, because, when they breastfeed and alternate breasts, they are 'swapping germs' all day long!

But, you all know how the food in the dish gets watery as the meal progresses (as more baby saliva gets added to the dish)... so I started thinking that maybe they should each have their own dish/spoon for each meal??

What do you all do for your twins?

One dish, one spoon. Too hard to remember who I was feeding with what spoon now that they dive bomb the spoon and I can't shovel it in fast enough.

i started feeding them rice cereal a few days ago as well. My pediatrician (also a mother of twins) said don't worry about two dish, two spoon. less dishes, less mess is the best. they share everything... toys, bed, etc. and are now sucking on each others hands, arms... that is really doesn't matter about germs.

ditto everyone else, we use one dish, one spoon and I could care less about germs- they have always shared, pacifiers, nipples, toys, you name it! I could not get them fed quickly enough if I had to deal with sperate bowls and spoons!

    have fun with solids

My two are constantly swapping pacifiers and toys. Not to mention all the times they drool on each other. It would be too much of a pain to feed them separately or with two dishes/two spoons.

Early on I tried keeping everything separte especially since E alwasy seemed to hav a cold or something. But I gave up it was to much work, to confusing and P never caught what E had anyways.

I put one dish and one spoon. But if they are sick, they get seperate everything.

One dish, one spoon, even when they were sick. I figured they were passing germs through chewing on the same toys so what does it matter if they share the same spoon. Also, I would have been too confused otherwise. :D

I am was a two dish, two spoon mama. I just didnt want them to share germs. We had preemies and we were just finishing up RSV season and I did not want to make a bigger risk. So until they were about 8 months or so, I kept on feeding with two and two. Once they started crawling and sharing everything, I gave up and went to one and one.

I started cereal just the other week. Started with two bowls and two spoons...works great when someone else is here helping...but when just me, one bowl and one spoon. I am glad this was posted b/c I thought I was doing something wrong by doing this but figured it was easiest for me.

I was never coordinated enough for 2 bowls & 2 spoons. By the time I grabbed the other bowl/spoon & fed the other baby, the 1st baby was livid that I was fumbling too long. We were/are a 1 dish/1 bowl family....

Same here...now if it was like the flu or something, I didn't share spoons, but colds, runny noses, they shared :)

If it makes you feel any better about it, it's probably not baby spit making it more watery, but the breast milk breaking down the cereal.

I voted one bowl, one spoon, but I used a divided bowl for the first several months so I could tell who was eating what. Sassy makes some with two equal sides and snap-on lids.

I'm an "all the above" answer.

We started with 2 dishes and 2 spoons since that's what we were supposed to do according to the books. Then I went to one dish and two spoons, followed by one dish and one spoon. WHen they got bigger and wanted to start trying to feed themselves, we went to two dishes and four spoons (one for each twin to "help" with, and one for each twin for me to actually feed). It was an ever evolving process here.

We've just been doing one dish and one spoon. We figure they share germs anyway (someone is putting someone else's fingers in their mouths, or feet...) and it is much easier for us to remember.

They share everything. The only time I use two spoons is if I'm feeding them differnent foods.

I'll give DD Carrots and DS peas. If DD tastes peas she will gag, so I use separate spoons

I vote one bowl one spoon. I see them share toys all day and chew on them so I figured it wouldn't be a very good use of my time. I did try it yesterday because one of my dd seemed to be coming down with a cold but gave up shortly after I could remember who was using what.

We've always done one dish one spoon. One DS did have some sort of stomach virus the last couple of days and I did do two of each then. Not sure it helped because as PP said they share toys, etc. anyway.

1 dish, 3 spoons. One for me to feed them with, one for each of them to poke themselves in the eyes with. I will use different bowls for different foods, but the same spoon gets used.

I do the exact same thing as you, unless there is someone to help me, in which case we have 2 spoons.

I voted 2 bowls 2 spoons, but only because we're new at solids, and I wanted to take the time to focus on one at a time and see how much each one ate. Once they get the hang of it, I have no prob w/ 1 bowl 1 spoon!
