The kiddos have started to spit up a lot more. This is new for us, nothing has changed (forumula wise). Is there anything that I can do to prevent this? They are 4 weeks today...

    TIA

They might have some reflux starting. Are they having any pain associated with eating? If so I would call your Ped and discuss it with him or her. There are meds to help with the pain and different formulas to help the spitting up and they might mention that you can add some cereal to thicken it to weigh the formula down in the stomach.

I agree with Rachel too. My big spitter really didn't start spitting until a week after coming home from the hospital (3 weeks old). And my non-spitter started arching and screaming around that time too. We started Zantac at 3 weeks and things improved. GL! -Leighann

My kids started to spit up more at 1 month too. They spit up expressed breast milk and formula with equal enthusiasm. Switching formulas didn't help. It got worse and worse over the course of the next couple of months - Evan experienced no discomfort but was a projectile puker and James didn't spit up quite as much as his brother, but seemed to be really uncomfortable/in pain. He was on meds for reflux for a while, but they didn't help. At seven months (and I'm sorry if that seems a long way for you - but maybe we're an extreme case) the spitting up was noticably better and now at 8 months we're surprised when someone spits up. My babies can wear the same outfit all day long!! Anyway, that's just my experience.

Not to be the voice of doom, but Ana is still spitting up a lot at almost 8 months old. She isn't in pain and it doesn't slow her down at all.. she'll just puke on the blanket/toy/whatever is in her way, and then move to a different place because EWWW puke! Our ped said that eventually gravity will help keep it all down once she is cruising and upright more of the day.

My twins have been spitting up since they were born and they still spit up A LOT at 7 months. I will be so glad when it stops, but I'm still cleaning it up for now. I do think Prevacid helps some although the doctor keeps telling me it doesn't!

My DD started spitting up more around that time as well, I asked the pedi about it and he said it was fairly normal, and not to worry as long as she didn't seem to be in pain and was gaining weight. We switched to soy formula, that helped her fussiness and gas, but she still spits up, moreso if she's really hungry and downs the bottle, we try to keep them on a 3 hour schedule during the day so she doesn't get ravenous.

I'm holding one of my 8 week old twins on my shoulder right now!!! I have used Mylicon mostly and it has helped settle gassy tummies in the past, but I ran out tonight. I hope it isn't reflux. She seems VERY uncomfortable. I'd be curious to hear what your ped says!
