Spitting...or blowing raspberries

I don't know who in my family started this "tradition" but our twosome thinks it's hilarious to blow raspberries and spit their food out. We tell them "No" "That's not how we eat" and it just does not phase them... any ideas? Or this is just a phase that will pass, hopefully soon?

Oh, I hate that. It comes and goes around here. I do my best to act completely bored about it, and if it doesn't stop on its own, the meal is usually over. It's usually after they've been eating well for several minutes, so they aren't going to go hungry.

Yep, like Zabeta said, try not to make a big deal about it. I know it is cute at first, but it does get tiring. It doesn't last forever!

I ditto exactly what Zabeta and Jackie do. Ignore and if it doesn't stop, meal is over. I would allow them to protest just once, give them their food back and if it happened again, done for real.

I have nothing else to add because we do exactly what everyone else said. If they are hungry they stop, and if they don't stop they must not be that hungry.

At my house- the more attention I paid to it- the more it happened. Once I started ignoring it and acting like it didn't bother me- it gradually stopped. They still do it at times- but not nearly as much as before.

After a few times of telling them no, I usually ended the mealtime if it didn't stop Nancy.

We are going through the same thing. Very frustrating - they make eachother laugh. Assume when they are hungry they will eat :p

I used to put the bib up in front of their mouth (mostly to contain the spray! but also gently press it to their lips so the food couldn't spray out) and say "no spitting". It was a three strikes your out deal. I'd do the bib thing twice and the third time they got wiped down and bib off. It usually only lasted a week or so and we went through two or three phases of it with each child. Always around 5 to 6 mos when we were good and going with baby food, again around 12mos and a few of them tried again between 15 and 18 mos. They learned quickly that it wouldn't fly with me.

I have always put the spoon infront of their mouths (to contain the spray and make the behavior harder to partake in). Once they can't do it, they usually stop. I usually just ignore it after that and they get bored of it pretty quickly. Hope this is a short phase for you! Oh yeah, and wear old tshirts while feeding them for a few days!

It comes and goes at our house too. I just keep telling them "No, we don't do that at the table". If it's towards the end of the meal then I just get them down. If it's at the beginning I just stare at them until they quit (usually just a few minutes) then continue feeding them. If they keep doing it (and I think they've eaten enough not to be holy terrors all night) then I get them down.
