My almost 21month olds have gotten in the habit of spiting what they are drinking all over the place. I am so ticked off about this and do not know how to stop this behavior. Please Help I dont want to have to wash the rug and furniture again
One spit, one warning, two spits, drink is gone. They will learn quickly that they will lose their drink if they continue.
I only give them water in sippies anywhere in the house. For milk and juice, they have to sit in their high chair.
One spit, one warning, two spits, drink is gone not only that but who ever spits must not be thirsty.. if they have to put their cup inthe kitchen for bad behavior.. next time they dont get one.. my kids live for drinks.. so they wont do this kind of thing.. the drinks are more like rewards.. even if its water..

I have a similar problem with Jessy. Milk she swallows, juice she swallows but water she lets dribble out her mouth. Like PP said once she gets a warning and twice the cup is gone.
I do the same thing...one spit warning, 2nd spit gone. Unfortunately, one of my girls rasberry sprays her food out also. FOr that i stopped spoon feeding her and let her feed herself and it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore. jena
Absolutely take the sippy cup away. They'll learn fast that it isn't acceptable to spit their drinks.
I agree with PP. We generally only give cups in the high chairs, and for any spitting or throwing of food or beverages, the plate and cup goes away after one warning that specifically says, "If you spit/throw that again, I will take it away." If they do it again, there is no discussion, it just goes away. We generally have few problems with this kind of behavior, and I think it's because we have been consistent about doing this since they started self-feeding.
