Both my girls have sort of thick, mucous-y spit up. It's always been that way and I thought it was normal. In the past week, three different people have helped me feed the girls. There is always a lot of spit up due to their reflux. All three women (who all have three kids of their own) asked me if there spit up was always this "weird." Hmmmm. Yes, it's always like that, but it never occurred to me that it wasn't the same as every other baby's spit up...other than the fact that they have a lot because of reflux. So is there anyone else out there who have babies with thick, viscous spit up? What might be the cause? I'll ask the doctor, but our 6 month well-baby visit isn't until July 14.

Are they on a special formula? Maybe its the way the formula binds with their stomach acid that produces the thick spit up. I really dont know. Have you ever brought it up to the Ped since its been going on for awhile? If not, maybe you could give them a call before your WBV and just see that way you can put your mind at ease and get an answer from the Ped.

I am not sure Beth. I remember our spit-up almost being the same consistency as it was when it went in. Any other issues...diarrhea, mucousy stools?

They are getting EBM. Karina's is thickened with Simply Thick, but Annelise's is not and her spit up is thick too. I never mentioned it to the doc because it never occurred to me that it was not normal since it's the same for both girls.

They are on thickeners, right? I would think that was the culprit! (edit to add - sorry, Beth, posted at the same time as you!)

My Benny is on reflux meds, and sometimes he has thick, mucus-like spit-up (but sometimes it is 'normal,' too - like milk-consistency or like curdled milk). I have always assumed that the refulx (or the meds for it) had something to do with his thick spit-up.

Ruby's spit up is really think and mucous-y too. None of the other girls have been like that, but she's still gaining weight and stuff so I'm not too worried about it.
