My chickies will be 9 months tomorrow. I have read many posts about babies younger than mine crawling, cruising, walking, etc. Mine aren't! They were born at 37.2 and we had an EI eval at 7 months because they weren't rolling but we didn't qualify (which is just fine!) because that was the only delay they had. Even now, they are happier just on their butts, not even rolling. A couple of times when Lauren was on her belly she was pushing backwards, but that only happened a couple of times and now she doesn't even want to be on her belly. I know babies do everything in their own time, but isn't this a little late?

Mine are 9 months and are crawling... BUT.. in my playgroup there is a girl who is 9 1/2 months who is totally content to just sit and play... doesn't like to be on her tummy, and doesn't seem interested in moving...

From what I understand, it's TOTALLY normal... and not to worry about it at all. Some kids never crawl and just start to walk.. goodness!

My cousins child scooted, and didn't start walking until 20 months....

(honestly, enjoy it while you can). ;)

Nope, there is such a big range for everything. My two didn't even sit until they were 10 months, but then by 13 months were crawling, cruising, standing and walking. I know quite a few people with singletons who didn't walk until they were 15 months old and they were full term.

Yours will get there, they all go at their own pace.

    Hey Michelle,

I tend to be cautious with anything developmental, and it doesn't hurt to bring it up to the ped. They are going to their 9 month appointment soon, right? I am sure that they are fine, but if they do "qualify", going to therapy could only help in my opinion! :hug99:s, they will get there!!

    hey princess stress-pants :)

i totally wouldn't worry...you can't compare (though i know we always do). look at my two...mallory has been on her belly, rolling, and pivoting all over the place for a long time now. zachary has just started to pivot. mallory is trying to crawl but gets VERY frustrated (hence, princess crabby pants). granted i know mine are a month behind. let's enjoy our babies and not worry...i'm sure your dr. will let you know when to worry.

Mine didn't crawl until about 9 1/2 months. I remember being at the pedi's office saying that they were close, but not quite there. DD didn't pull to standing until 11 months. Neither one is walking, but they are both cruising now.

hi Michelle! I wouldn't worry that they aren't crawling, etc. Mine are 9 months (born 34 weeks) and not crawling at all. They roll, roll, roll forever - but no crawling even though I show them how to every day.

My only advice came from our EI PT. She said babies need to spend equal time sitting as they do on the floor (rolling, pushing up, etc.) My dd would prefer to sit 24/7, but after 30 minutes of sitting, I show her how to (i.e. make her) get out of sitting to laying, and then she has to play while being down. At first, she wasn't happy at all, but now she's used to it. She really will roll everywhere to get toys. I just push them away from her so she has to go get it.

    Hope this makes some sense

Can I just say THANK YOU for posting this! Mine are younger, 7 1/2 months, but they do not move! Okay, they wiggle and sometimes turn to their side, but they are not motivated to go anywhere. I hate going to the pedi because I feel terrible when he asks if they're moving yet! Yes they CAN roll, but the choose not to!

my DD didn't crawl until 10.5 mos...and at 12 mos 1 week she simply stood up, took her first steps and has improved walking ever since..my DS on the other hand crawled at 8 mos and is still doing the 3 step drop when it comes to walking...

Mine were late crawlers as well. Ainsley crawled at 9.5 months and Sierra at 10.5 months. We had an EI visit for Sierra during that time and she had the skills but just wasn't interested. That was what I suspected so I hadn't worried about it. The girls crawled for a long time before finally walking at about 16.5 months.

Thanks everyone! I would have to say that I am definitely not to the point of worry, it is just something I have been thinking about. I appreciate everyone's comments and reassurance! I figured I would get these replies, but I guess I just actually needed to hear it. KWIM?

Becky, we do have our 9 mo. pedi appt. Monday so I will mention it to him.

Development of the 9 month old should be this:

    1. During this period your baby will probably learn to creep, crawl and otherwise get around the room. He or she may even pull up in the bed or on furniture and begin "cruising" around the room.
    2. Responds to his or her own name.
    3. Understands a few words such as "no-no" and "bye-bye."
    4. Begins developing certain concepts - for example, your child will retrieve a toy after he or she watched you put it under a blanket.
    5. May say "dada" or "mama" but not specifically.
    6. Sits well independently.
    7. Bangs two toys together.
    8. Plays interactive games well such as peek-a-boo and pat-a-cake.
    9. Perhaps the most striking developmental achievement is the use of fingers and thumb to poke, pry, probe and pick up smaller and smaller objects.
    10. Sleeps through the night except for an occasional night wakening.
    11. The 9-month-old has now learned to be "cool" or even a little afraid of certain strangers - even family members he or she does not see very often. The baby of this age also begins to take a dim view of being examined by their doctor.
    12. Often has one or both bottom front teeth.

It says at this age they will learn to creep, crawl and get around... so since yours are 9 months old... they will now begin to start these things!!

    Keep us updated. :hug99:

My girlies are 8 months and even though we know they can both roll over (to get a toy) they rarely do it. Sometimes if we try to encourage it they resist and push against us. They too are just happy not going anywhere and out pedi says that is fine (but they were born at 33.5 weeks) It is fine by me....I don't know if I am ready to chase two around yet.
