do you put your LO's in it *before* they can sit up alone to help strengthen their cores?

I did, I started putting them in the Bumbo seats when they were about 3 months old. I started at a few minutes each time.

    ok...thank you!!!
i try and prop my little guys up on the couch and sometimes its so funny. they just fall to the side. they dont say anything or do anything. i literally turn around for 1 sec to prop the other baby up and the other baby is face down in the couch!
i know, not funny but im sure you know what i mean. they are such little weeble-wobbles!!

im going to have my hubby pull it out of the attic from my baby shower. should i have him get the exersaucers too?

One thing to keep in mind is that our physical therapist said it could make my boys torticolis worse if they used the bumbos and hunched over to the bad side. So if you have a baby that has an overly strong preference towards turning their head one way or another, you might want to be careful and monitor which way they're sitting in the bumbo.

My sons pt said they were not made to learn to sit. I remember her saying that when the child is in there, they are not needing to use any core muscles to sit so it does not teach them how to sit. They were made for children who had physical disabilities and then the general market got a hold of the concept and created the bumbo.

Yes. We started using them at 5 months old and still put Kelsey in one. Ryley outgrew it pretty fast because his legs got too chunky for it. Both sit on their own now but Kelsey falls backwards sometimes so I like to put her in hers.

My PT said the same thing. Not to put them in their until they had good head and fairly good back support. My chiropractor also said putting them in to early could have negative impact on their spines.

I didn't put them in until they could sit in them well without slumping over.

Our PT said that same as others. Definitely makes torticollus worse and you don't want to use it until they have good back support and neck support. Around 4 months is when we started using them, but the girls were extremely uncomfortable because they didn't develop those back muscles yet. Around 5 months they were more comfortable and around 6 months they didn't mind being in them at all. Now we use them to feed the girls in.

Both my boys have good head and neck control at this point so I've started putting them in the bumbos. I had one from my girls, and both loved it so much that I snagged another one off craigslist for $10.00. I don't leave then in long, but they really get a thrill out of sitting in them facing each other. They just babble away at each other. It's also great for playing peekaboo with their sisters.
