Right now I cut the crust off grilled cheese when I make it for them, but when did you start letting your kids eat the crust? I would personally prefer they eat the crust, but not until they are ready to not choke on it.

I do let them have some crust on garlic bread and breadsticks.

I've never cut the crust off for them until it's the really hard/crusty bakery bread. They've never had any problems with it.

I've never cut the crust off either. Sometimes Natalie will pull the crust off herself but mainly because she doesn't like the oats and grains on the crust of whole grain bread.

    Ditto.

And I only do the "fun" sandwiches with the cutter every so often, not every day.

I used to use my sandwich cutter all the time, but when they started preschool and I had/have to pack their lunch every day, I don't. More times than not they will eat most/all of the crust.

I've never cut the crust off of any bread for them. Infact their first bread was bread sticks and pizza crust that they just gummed as babies. Most store boughten bread has such soft crust, I think the custom of cutting it off comes more from giving in to the whims of kids rather than any true choking hazard.

I cut the crusts when they were learning to eat bread but once they had their first molars I stopped (14 months). I don't think that what I did was even necessary but it seemed logical at the time  Anyway, no choking here and they eat the crust.

I buy the "thin" bread so there really isn't any crust. I believe it's made by Pepperidge Farms, and my family loves it!

I usually do'nt cut the crust off unless it's crunchy bread...but they tend to pick at it if I don't cut it off. Sometimes they don't mind, but other times they make a mess picking at it.

I like the sandwich sealer b/c it seals in the PB&J so it's not all leaking out the sides, etc. Plus, it's a fun shape for them to hold and everything seems to just stay contained better...KWIM?

I let them eat crust the first time I gave them bread. At 8 months. I didnt want them to grow up not liking crust. once early on, i gave them toasted bread and that was ALL they ate. only the crust and left the middle. I had to laugh at myself. I never cut the crust off. I find that Alexis eats her entire half sandwich if it's in triangles and Rachel prefers squares. FWIW they sometimes leave the crust but if they're hungry they will eat it.

I have never cut the crust off. I never even thought about it. My mom never did it for me and I always thought it was strange when I was growing up that some kids wouldn't eat the crust. My feeling is, if you don't like it, don't eat it, but I'm not going to wait on you and cut it off. They are perfectly capable of pulling it off if they don't want it.

As far as a choking hazard, I don't think it is any more dangerous than the Gerber Zweiback Toast and those are approved for crawlers.

I'm with the non cutters. Mine have always had the crust. My little sister refused to eat the crust until she was 8 (and that was forced eating). I didn't want my kids growing up thinking it was optional.

I've never cut the crust off (and my mom would never do it either). I still think that gizmo sounds cool though! But at the moment it's moot for us, since mine won't eat sandwiches, period. They may occasionally take a sandwich apart and eat the cheese, and pull the bread into little pieces with their fingers, but they will not pick up a sandwich and bite into it.

When I first started giving bread I cut off the crust. Now that they are chewing better I leave it on, as long as its not to hard.

Right now I still cut the crusts off of their sandwiches and toast, right now they really only eat grilled cheese. We will try peanut butter at age 2. I can't remember with my oldest DD when she started eating the crusts, but she did. But now at 6.5 she doesn't eat it anymore, but I don't cut it off she just leaves it.

Ditto here. They've never seemed to mind the crust, didn't really occur to me to cut it off.

I am morally opposed to cutting the crusts off, and also to white bread. I grew up on wheat bread with crusts and I remember when I started school thinking all these kids were so freaky with their weird white bread and no crusts, LOL! I especially remember thinking how gross PB&J was on white bread because the jelly had always gooped through the bread by the time lunch period had rolled around, ewwwww.

Ditto! I originally used other bread, but noticed that sometimes they did have a little trouble with it when I made grilled cheese, it would just get a little too hard/chewy for them. It wasn't a choking hazard, but they would just sort of gnaw on the crust and never get to the sandwich, KWIM? So then we started getting the Pepperidge Farms thin bread -- there are at least 3 varieties -- and even when it's well toasted it doesn't give them any problems. (And for myself, I like that the thinner slices equate to fewer calories per slice. :)) Even when we get crusty bread at the local bakery or farmer's market, we just slice it thinly and the crust doesn't give them any problems.

I've never cut off the crust either. Sometimes they eat the crust and sometimes they don't. The closer I get the PB to the crust, the more likely they are to eat it. :)

I've never cut the crust off either. I do have the sandwich sealer but personally I think that it wastes too much of the bread in addition to the crust. The girls have never had a problem with bread or toast...

Wow! Someone who's just as weird as me. I am also morally opposed to white bread, especially Wonder bread for some reason. I never understood cutting the crust off either. I switched on my own to wheat bread for my pb&j's as a kid, and strawberry jam, not grape.

The crust of regular bread never seemed much harder than the middle so I never cut it off. The girls ate it just fine.
