I brush my girls teeth twice a day. After breakfast and before bed. However, I have never used toothpaste. I was under the impression that if they can't spit it out (even childrens toothpaste) they shouldn't use it. So do you?

We use the Orajel toddler training toothpaste, it says it's safe to swallow. That is what we used with our oldest DD too until she learned to spit out the toothpaste.

We also used this toothpaste until they learned how to spit it out. It has Little Bear on the box.

We use the flouride-free toddler toothpaste. It's certainly not a necessity but they like it.

We use fluoride-free children's toothpaste. We started with the Orajel kind, but I bought some Tom's of Maine (strawberry flavor) once and they love it, so now I try to get that. I actually bought the fluoride kind by accident last time (stupid boxes look exactly the same), but we are still using it, I'm just trying to use only a teeny tiny amount.

I have Aquafresh Kids AND I buy the Oragel. I use not even a pea size amount of the AquaFresh first (just to give them good breath) and I get them to brush or I get them to let me have a quick go at it and then I let them get crazy on their own and only use the Oragel. This bottle of Aquafresh is one we've had for awhile now. It'll probably expire long before they ever finish it, but we go through the Oragel like crazy.

I use Oral-B fluoride free toothpaste. The girls love it, they think their getting a "treat" when its time to brush their teeth. :)

We use the Orajel flouride free kind, too. We actually just took them for a dental checkup a few weeks ago (I know it was early, but insurance paid 100%).....and they told me it was fine to use that kind of toothpaste. Now whenever I say "Who wants to brush their teeth?" they get really excited b/c they love the toothpaste.

PS - I only put a small dot on it, though

We use the oragel toothpaste as well. It's delicious and the girls are so excited to brush their teeth (when I remember to do it  ). My ped recommended it and I figure I will start to use real toothpaste when they understand the directions to spit out.

Odd man out here - we don't use toothpaste, just water. Our Pedi said to wait till they can spit it out.

My girls use the Baby Ora Gel - the Thomas the Tank tube. I also use a flouride kids toothpaste for the second round. As for how to brush without a fight...whenever they put up a fuss, dh & I open our mouths & let them look at our "black holes" (fillings) & tell them we got them because we wouldn't let our mommy & daddy brish our teeth. Before that worked, we just laid them on the floor, threw a leg over their chests & brushed while they screamed & hollered. We felt it was worth the fight to avoid cavities. I resisted the "brushing by force" until my BIL gave me a "talking to" about baby teeth decay.

We also use the baby Orajel. Not sure when we can switch, I don't think they understand about spitting yet.

We use flouride free but they do have a dentist appointment tomorrow if I remember I will ask when should I start the toothpaste with flouride. If I remember around 3 is when we started with my SD.

We do a combo... water most nights and Burt's Bees non-floride on the nights we want to get brushing over with. Chloe and Cole go in spurts of liking/not liking to brush. If a little taste of toothpaste (orange flavor) helps, we're all for it.

Floride free stuff here. Just use a little the girls love the taste though.

Another Baby Orajel household here. Occasionally we use the Oral B w/o flouride as well, but they like the pictures of Little Bear & pals on the Orajel. ("Kittycats love cupcakes!" is a common phrase during tooth-brushing time!)

I used to use the oragel stuff but I didn't like some of the stuff in it (sorbitol and saccharin) so I switched the Toms of Maine flouride-free in Silly Strawberry. I put about a lentil-sized (not even a pea!) dab on one brush and then smear it onto the other brush too - just a taste to make it easier to get them to go along with it.

Orajel here too - my kids LOVE having their teeth brushed - and after dh and I brush their teeth they take the brush themselves and make the motions...

We also use Baby Orajel. They like the taste and will brush themselves for a bit. At first, I let them brush mommy's teeth with my toothbrush and I would brush theirs with their toothbrushes. We would alternate back and forth. Now I pretend that I'm looking for bugs in their mouths. They open wide, I brush for a bit, and then make a loud "Oh! There's one!" every few seconds, which makes them laugh. They'll let me "clean the bugs" off all their teeth, so we get a good brushing in.
