is there a gizmo that you can buy which will help you quickly put hair up in pig tails or pony tails? what is it called? where to buy it?

about the time I gather all the hair up on Alexis she's looking elsewhere and the whole thing has to be redone and I havent even started with the binder/rubber band thing.

Not that I know of. I try to do Casey's pigtails while she's concentrating on something else (breakfast, TV, a special toy). I also use a spray detangler by J&J and the fact the hair is damp makes it easier to control. A finetooth comb is also great for helping to gather it up. I think it's just a matter of practice, practice, practice! It would be great through if there were some sort of cap you put on and the pigtails get gathered up and stick out of it so you can take your time wrapping the bands around. [IMG]

The only tool I know of is the TV and her favorite show [IMG] Like the pp said, use a bit of water and a fine tooth comb. You'll get good at doing it fast, and she'll get used to sitting still. This will sound mean, but it only takes a few times of her trying to pull away and you not letting go for her to understand that it hurts if she doesn't sit still.

I also turn on the TV to distract them. Initially, they would run off before I could get their pigtails done, but I've found that with some practice I'm getting better at doing it faster and they are learning that they are not getting away from me until their hair is done.

believe me, I've tried hanging onto her fine hair for dear life and she still will wriggle away, and I am not left with a handful of hair either. whatever. she's sorta a tomboy anyway, but the hair is starting to get long again and I don't want to do another hair cut right now. what brand of rubber bands does everyone use?

We use small rubberbands made by Goody. They look like little clear rubberbands. It comes in a package of 75. I think I got them at either Walmart or Target.

Alexis also has very fine hair and she does not have much hair either. I've found that I've had to wrap the elastic around her pigtail a few times otherwise it's not tight enough and the rubberband just slides right back off. This scares me sometimes as I worry about it falling off and her picking it up and trying to swallow it. On the other hand I don't want to get to too tight so that it's really uncomfortable on her head.

If you stretch the rubberband out a little before you try to put it on her, I've found it was easier to get on, and get on quickly. Hope this helps.

I agree with pp...make sure she is occupied (I do Morgan's during breakfast), wet the hair a bit and use a comb! So much easier than those baby brushes, etc.

Poor Molly is so used to her hair routine. Every morning after getting dressed, I spray her hair with a water bottle and then put some up in a pony.

So glad I saw this post! I haven't even tried because everything I put in their hair slides out, but I haven't wet it, so I'll try that for sure! Thx for the tips!

I put my girls on top of the sink with their feet in the sink. They are close to the mirror(they love looking at themselves). I dont use water on their hair to do the piggy or ponytails. I use Bio-Silk on their hair. It doesnt dry as fast. You know just incase they are not sitting still(my malena is a wiggle worm)or the hair isnt doing what you want it to do. I also have rubberband in my hand(around my wrist)while I am gathering the hair.

There is a product out there that doesnt do ponytails or pigtails but it does do braids. You gather two glumps of hair and put the ends of the hair in this product. You turn it on and it braids the hair for you. Its guick and it works best on hair that is thinner. Well not thin........but hair that isnt thick. I own a hair salon and a lady brought the product in and showed us how she does her own braid. She had LONG hair and we wondered how she got the braid that actually looked good if she does it herself. I dont know what the name of it is but I am sure if you call around you could find it.
